  1. 1. Anti-herpes simplex virus activities of sulfomannan oligosaccharide PI-88 and disulfated cyclitols

    Författare :Maria Ekblad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :herpes simplex virus; antiviral drugs; viral glycoproteins; heparan sulfate mimetic; PI-88;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus (HSV) initiates invasion of human cells by binding to the cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) glycosaminoglycan chains. This step is mediated by the viral envelope glycoproteins gC and/or gB. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The glycobiology of human adenovirus infections : implications for tropism and treatment

    Författare :Naresh Chandra; Niklas Arnberg; Lars Frängsmyr; Gunnel Haldén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; denovirus; cellular receptor; glycosaminoglycan; sialic acid; decoy receptors; tropism; epidemic keratoconjunctivitis; antiviral drugs; GAG-mimetic; obesity; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology;

    Sammanfattning : Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are common human pathogens, causing gastrointestinal, ocular, and respiratory infections on a regular basis. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) is a severe ocular infection for which no approved antivirals are available. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Interaction of herpes simplex virus with cell surface glycosaminoglycans as a target for antiviral intervention

    Författare :Kicki Bergefall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HSV; glycoproteins; glycosaminoglycans; virus receptor; antiviral drugs;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in humans are predominantly manifested as oral cold sores or genital ulcers. As HSV infects cells by interaction with cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) and/or chondroitin sulfate (CS), the aim of the research work presented in this thesis was to explore the possibility of antiviral intervention with compounds that mimic HS or CS.
