  1. 16. Innate and adaptive immunity in genital HSV-2 infection: Implications for vaccine development

    Författare :Ali M Harandi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :genital herpes infection; natural antibody; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; IFN-g; IL-12; IL-18; CC chemokines; dendritic cells.;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a sexually transmitted pathogen that infects the genital tract mucosa and is the most common case of genital ulcers in humans. Despite numerous studies, little is known about the mechanisms involved in immune protection and no anti-herpes vaccine has been developed to date. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Identification and evaluation of antiviral compounds targeting Rift Valley fever virus

    Författare :Koushikul Islam; Clas Ahlm; Magnus Evander; Anna K. Överby; Johan Neyts; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Rift Valley fever virus; antiviral; assay development; screening; drug discovery;

    Sammanfattning : Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), a negative-stranded RNA virus, is the etiological agent of the vector-borne zoonotic disease Rift Valley fever (RVF). RVFV causes significant morbidity and mortality in humans and livestock throughout Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Evolution of human alpha-herpesviruses

    Författare :Peter Norberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HSV-1; HSV-2; VZV; evolution; recombination; phylogenetic analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Herpesviridae is a large virus family with more than 100 members, which are highly disseminated among animals. Three sub-families have been classified; alpha-herpesviruses, beta-herpesviruses and gamma-herpesviruses. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Prevalance and prevention of sexually transmitted viral infections in the Bolivian Amazonas

    Författare :Marianela Patzi Churqui; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sexually transmitted infections; indigenous women; Bolivian Amazonas; medical plants; microbicides; cytokines; HSV-2; HPV; HBV;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the prevalence of sexually transmitted viral infections in women living in the Amazonas region of Bolivia and explores whether Bolivian medical plants can affect the immune system and prevent or treat infections with Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and inflammation. My PhD project was financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and I did my work alternately in Bolivia and in Sweden. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Investigation of antiviral and anticancer nucleoside analog substrate recognition of drosophila melanogaster and herpes virus deoxyribonucleoside kinases

    Författare :Nicola Solaroli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The deoxyribonucleoside kinase of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster (Dm-dNK) is a multisubstrate enzyme that phosphorylates pyrimidine and purine deoxyribonucleosides as well as several anticancer and antiviral nucleoside analogs. Dm-dNK is sequence related to the human deoxycytidine kinase (dCK), deoxyguanosine kinase (dGK) and thymidine kinase 2 (M), as well as to the herpes simplex virus type-1 thymidine kinase (Hsv-1 TK).
