6. Solute Carriers in Metabolism : Regulation of known and putative solute carriers in the central nervous system
Sammanfattning : Solute carriers (SLCs) are membrane-bound transporter proteins, important for nutrient, ion, drug and metabolite transport across membranes. A quarter of the human genome codes for membrane-bound proteins, and SLCs make up the largest group of transporter proteins. LÄS MER
7. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter
Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 8. Jejunal control of glucose homeostasis in the human body
Sammanfattning : Background: The prevalence of obesity and type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have risen dramatically over the last decades, and are major threats to the human health. Obesity, and also T2DM, is treated with lifestyle modifications, medications or by bariatric surgery, with varying success. LÄS MER
9. Chromatographic Studies of Solute Interactions with Immobilized Red Blood Cells and Biomembranes
Sammanfattning : Specific and non-specific interactions of solutes with immobilized biomembranes were studied using chromatographic methods. Liposomes, proteoliposomes and red blood cell (RBC) membrane vesicles were immobilized by a freeze-thawing procedure, whereas whole RBCs were adsorbed in the gel beds using electrostatic interaction, binding to wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) or the streptavidin-biotin interaction. 10. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes
Sammanfattning : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. LÄS MER
