  1. 6. On Folates in Yeasts -Exploring Yeasts as Vehicles for Biofortification of Folates in Food

    Författare :Sofia Hjortmo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; yeast; B vitamin; biofortification; bread; indigenous food; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; folic acid; fermented food; togwa; Folate;

    Sammanfattning : High intake of the B vitamin folate during pregnancy is known to decrease the risk for development of neural tube defects. In addition, a good folate status may prevent the progression of several diseases such as megaloblastic anaemia, cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Biomarkers of one-carbon metabolism in colorectal cancer risk

    Författare :Björn Gylling; Richard Palmqvist; Katarina Bälter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; one-carbon metabolism; biomarkers; folate; epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : One-carbon metabolism, a network of enzymatic reactions involving the transfer of methyl groups, depends on B-vitamins as cofactors, folate as a methyl group carrier, and amino acids, betaine, and choline as methyl group donors. One-carbon metabolism influences many processes in cancer initiation and development such as DNA synthesis, genome stability, and histone and epigenetic methylation. LÄS MER

  3. 8. The CpG island methylator phenotype in colorectal cancer : studies on risk and prognosis

    Författare :Anna Dahlin; Richard Palmqvist; Bethany van Guelpen; Maria Henriksson; Åke Öberg; Xiao-Feng Sun; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; DNA methylation; folate; microsatellite instability MSI ; prognosis; risk factors; t-lymphocytes; the CpG island methylator phenotype CIMP ; Vitamin B12; Pathology; Patologi; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common malignancy in developed countries. The mortality is high, with nearly half of patients dying from the disease. The primary treatment of CRC is surgery, and decisions about additional treatment with chemotherapy are based mainly on tumor stage. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Infant Anemia and Micronutrient Status : Studies of Early Determinants in Rural Bangladesh

    Författare :Hanna Eneroth; Eva-Charlotte Ekström; Lars-Åke Persson; Usha Ramakrishnan; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Anemia and micronutrient deficiencies in infancy are common in low-income settings. These are partly due to maternal malnutrition and may impair child health and development. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Homocysteine and its determinants in relation to cardiovascular risk factors and myocardial infarction

    Författare :Elisabet Söderström; Johan Hultdin; Torbjörn K. Nilsson; Anders Larsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Homocysteine; folate; myocardial infarction; apolipoprotein; risk factors; cotinine; nicotine; tobacco; CTH; MTHFR; renal insufficiency; glomerular filtration rate; creatinine; cystatin C; shrunken pore syndrome; epidemiology; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, are the leading cause of illness and death and constitute a significant part of the disease burden in Sweden and Western Europe. Age, hypertension, smoking, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, diabetes, and impaired renal function are considered established risk factors for CVD. LÄS MER
