  1. 11. How on Earth? : Operationalizing the ecosystem service concept for sustainability

    Författare :Katja Malmborg; Lisen Schultz; Albert V. Norström; Kaisa Korhonen-Kurki; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Ecosystem services; Stewardship; Resilience thinking; Knowledge co-production; Landscape management; Learning; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : Production landscapes are at the center of many of the sustainability challenges that we face. The ecosystem service concept has risen in prominence over the last decades as a tool to support sustainable landscape management. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Linking Landscapes and Livelihoods : Ecosystem services as a lens in Sudano-Sahelian West Africa

    Författare :Hanna Sinare; Line Gordon; Anders Malmer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecosystem services; landscapes; livelihoods; agroforestry; Sudano-Sahel; West Africa; Natural Resources Management; naturresurshushållning;

    Sammanfattning : Integrated landscape approaches are increasingly called for to reconcile multiple objectives from the perspectives of agriculture, forestry, poverty alleviation and biodiversity conservation. Sudano-Sahelian West Africa with low agricultural productivity and widespread poverty is a hotspot for these issues and has attracted international interest in interventions to improve livelihoods. 3. 13. Coarse detritus in oligotrophic lake littoral zones : utilization by intervertebrates and contribution to carbon flow

    Författare :Irene Bohman; Jan Herrman; Lars Tranvik; Jan Stenson; Mark O. Gessner; Högskolan i Kalmar; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Shredders; Biodiversity; Ecosystem; Limnology; Nattsländor; Sjöar; Kol; Biologisk nedbrytning; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Syftet med denna avhandling är att öka förståelsen av hur grovt organiskt material, sk grovdetritus, tex löv och makrofytrester, bryts ner i sjöars strandzoner. Motivet bakom intresset för detta är att små näringsfattiga sjöar i skogsrika områden ofta är beroende av tillförsel av energi utifrån och att nedbrytningen av grovdetritus är relativt lite undersökt i sjöar. 4. 14. Links Between Structure and Function of Heterotrophic Aquatic Bacterial Communities

    Författare :Silke Langenheder; Lars Tranvik; Eva Lindström; David Kirchman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; heterotrophic bacteria; dissolved organic matter; diversity; community composition; ecosystem functioning; salinity; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heterotrophic bacteria utilize dissolved organic matter, and the carbon flow through an ecosystem depends on the fractions of the utilized carbon that is either respired or transferred to higher trophic levels. The major aim this thesis is to investigate 1) the relationship between composition and functioning in heterotrophic bacterioplankton communities and 2) the influence of environmental conditions on both parameters. 5. 15. Marine seaweed invasions : Impacts and biotic resistance in native ecosystems

    Författare :Josefin Sagerman; Sofia Wikström; Fransisco Arenas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant invasion; exotic species; generalist herbivores; plant-herbivore interactions; enemy-release hypothesis; ecosystem function; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Marine seaweeds constitute one of the most productive plant systems known on Earth and a rich fauna including juvenile fish and crustaceans is dependent on the habitats they form. Human influence on marine costal ecosystems has resulted in large scale changes to the abundance and distribution of species, where species introductions constitute an obvious part. LÄS MER
