Sammanfattning : Polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM) are chronic idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) which are clinically characterized by symmetrical proximal muscle weakness, fatigue, myalgia and extra- muscular involvement. Muscle impairment is the most significant feature of PM and DM with characteristic infiltrates of mononuclear inflammatory cells in muscle biopsies, elevated inflammatory parameters in serum and characteristic EMG changes, which separate these disorders from neurologic disorders and also fibromyalgia. 15. Keloids - A fibroproliferative disease
Sammanfattning : Keloids are a fibroproliferative disorder of unknown etiology developing in the skin after injury or spontaneously. The aim of this thesis is to gain deeper insight into the role of TGF-β and its signaling pathway proteins, SMADs, in the pathogenesis of keloids and describe the gene expression profile in different keloid sites in the search for potential target genes for future treatment.
