21. Engineering Surfaces of Solid-State Nanopores for Biomolecule Sensing
Sammanfattning : Nanopores have emerged as a special class of single-molecule analytical tool that offers immense potential for sensing and characterizing biomolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins. As an alternative to biological nanopores, solid-state nanopores present remarkable versatility due to their wide-range tunability in pore geometry and dimension as well as their excellent mechanical robustness and stability. 22. Arrayed identification of DNA signatures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis techniques are presented that aim to determine individual DNA signatures by controlled synthesis of nucleic acid multimers. Allele-specific extension reactions with an improved specificity were applied for several genomic purposes. Since DNA polymerases extend some mismatched 3’-end primers, an improved specificity is a concern. LÄS MER
23. Quantitative detection of bacterial DNA in whole blood in bloodstream infection
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on how quantitative PCR can be used in the diagnostics of bloodstream infections, with an emphasis on quantitative elements. In Papers I and II, we evaluated quantitative data from two commercial PCR tests for pathogen detection directly in blood, Magicplex Sepsis (I) and SeptiFast (II), from patients with suspected sepsis. 24. Exploring the multiscale 3D architecture of human chromosome contact networks
Sammanfattning : Cells regulate genes to coordinate essential functions allowing cells to grow, divide, specialize, and respond to stresses. While regulatory proteins are the most common way to control these genes, the DNA’s 3D structure also plays a critical role as it affects how proteins access genes and how regulatory DNA elements interact over large genomic distances. 25. Electric DNA arrays for determination of pathogenic Bacillus cereus
Sammanfattning : Silicon-based electric chip arrays were developed for characterization of Bacillus cereus with respect to the capacity to produce toxins involved in food poisoning and foodborne infections. Bacteria of the B. cereus group contain different sets of four toxins encoded by eight genes. LÄS MER
