  1. 1. Hepatitis B virus RNA in serum and liver tissue - quantification using digital PCR

    Författare :Kasthuri Prakash; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; NTCP; HBV DNA; HBV RNA; subviral particles; integrations; droplet digital PCR;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global health issue that is responsible for approximately 900,000 deaths each year, by inducing liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A few markers are used to classify HBV infection and monitor treatment efficacy, including HBV DNA, surface antigen (HBsAg) and e antigen (HBeAg) in serum as well as HBV DNA and RNA in liver tissue. 2. 2. Quantitative detection of bacterial DNA in whole blood in bloodstream infection

    Författare :Ingrid Ziegler; Kristoffer Strålin; Paula Mölling; Magnus Rasmussen; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bloodstream infection; bacteremia; sepsis; DNA load; quantitative PCR; droplet digital PCR; 16S rDNA;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on how quantitative PCR can be used in the diagnostics of bloodstream infections, with an emphasis on quantitative elements.In Papers I and II, we evaluated quantitative data from two commercial PCR tests for pathogen detection directly in blood, Magicplex Sepsis (I) and SeptiFast (II), from patients with suspected sepsis. 3. 3. Improved methodologies for molecular detection and quantification of viruses in food

    Författare :Sofia Persson; Patrik Ellström; Magnus Simonsson; Wim van der Poel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; foodborne virus; digital PCR; real-time PCR; validation; assay design; food safety; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Foodborne viruses such as norovirus, hepatitis A virus and hepatitis E virus cause a high burden of disease worldwide. Reverse transcription (RT) quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) is the current standard method for monitoring viral contamination in the food chain. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular mechanism of plasmid copy number control in Yersinia

    Författare :Tifaine Héchard; Helen Wang; Javier Pizarro-Cerda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; plasmid copy number; T3SS; infection; ddPCR; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of pathogenic bacteria to cause disease depends on various virulence mechanisms. The three pathogenic species of Yersinia use a type III secretion system (T3SS) to translocate effector proteins into host cells and disrupt the immune system. This T3SS is encoded on a 70kb, low-copy, virulence plasmid. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The human pancreatic polypeptide receptor Y4 : Genetic and functional variation

    Författare :Kateryna Shebanits; Dan Larhammar; Sadaf Farooqi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NPY4R; Y4; obesity; CNV; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Humans are evolutionarily adapted to an environment where food is scarce, but today many live in a world of food abundance. Paired with low physical activity, this may lead to weight gain and obesity. Efficient anti-obesity treatments require understanding of the mechanisms that control hunger, satiety, energy metabolism and body weight. LÄS MER
