   Sammanfattning : Some environmental issues for shipping are regulated globally with uniform standards and others with stricter regulations in specific areas. This thesis aims to provide an understanding of why a regional approach was chosen with SOx Emission Control Areas (SECAs) as the main form of control of sulphur oxide emissions from international shipping, with explanations based on documents from negotiations within the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during 1988-1997.    Sammanfattning : Although positive in terms of patient trauma and recovery time, minimally invasive surgery has several technical drawbacks compared with open surgery. The new da Vinci® Surgical System from Intuitive Surgical® offers technical innovations aiming at overcoming these drawbacks and at improving the surgeon’s operating skills, such as the improved 3-D vision, tremor reduction and flexible instruments with a more natural and intuitive range of motion.    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have investigated factors (cues, benefits, and costs) affecting the evolution of an inducible morphological defence in crucian carp (Carassius carassius). Inducible defences are favoured over permanent defences when prey have reliable cues to detect predators, when defences are effective but costly, and when predation pressure is variable and unpredictable, but sometimes strong.
