  1. 1. Clinical, biochemical and morphological aspects of cervical ripening in the first trimester

    Författare :Nina Vukas Radulovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cervical ripening; misoprostol; nitric oxide; electron microscopy; miscarriage; IL-8; MMP-1; MMP-8; MMP-9;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The uterine cervix has the ability to be transformed from being a rigid organ in non-pregnant women to become a loose structure that dilates and allows passage of the foetus at parturition. This process, cervical ripening, has been described similar to an inflammatory reaction of the extracellular matrix involving activation of inflammatory cytokines, matrix metalloproteinases and breakdown of the collagen framework. 2. 2. FDG-PET in Cervical Cancer - Translational Studies

    Författare :Maria Bjurberg; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in females. The treatment, based on clinical FIGO stage, carries a significant risk of side effects. FDG-PET enables non-invasive studies of glucose metabolism. Cancer cells show an increased glucose uptake and metabolism that can be visualised and further analysed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Preterm and term cervical ripening : studies on CRH, HMGB1, toll-like receptors, cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases

    Författare :Aurelija Dubicke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cervical fibroblasts; cervical ripening; cervix; chemokines; cytokines; CRH; HMGB1; interleukin; labor; preterm; preterm labor; matrix metalloproteinases; pregnancy; PPROM; Tolllike receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Despite the existing treatment, the frequency of PTB has not changed in the past thirty years. Incomplete understanding of the biological and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying preterm delivery is the major obstacle to preventing PTB. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Centrosome aberrations and tumor development

    Författare :Kaoru Fujioka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Centrosome; cervical carcinoma; adrenocortical tumor; tetraploidization; p53; griseofulvin; 13-cis-retinoic acid.;

    Sammanfattning : The transformation of a normal cell to a tumor cell is a result of a failure somewhere in a complicated system of coordination, checkpoints and control mechanisms of inhibitors and activators working as triggers and transactivators of genes of importance for cell cycle progression. In the present thesis, the focus is on an important function that controls the segregation of the chromosomes during cell division to the next generation of two daughter cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Uterine Remodeling During Pregnancy - Studies on the Effect of Heparin/Heparan Sulfate

    Författare :Anna Åkerud; Matrixbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : During pregnancy, the uterine tissues must go through a major transformation to be able to first hold the growing fetus and then, at term, expel it through the opened birth canal (cervix). It is a requirement for successful labor that there is adequate cervical softening combined with effective myometrial contractions. LÄS MER
