  1. 1. Centrosome aberrations and tumor development

    Författare :Kaoru Fujioka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Centrosome; cervical carcinoma; adrenocortical tumor; tetraploidization; p53; griseofulvin; 13-cis-retinoic acid.;

    Sammanfattning : The transformation of a normal cell to a tumor cell is a result of a failure somewhere in a complicated system of coordination, checkpoints and control mechanisms of inhibitors and activators working as triggers and transactivators of genes of importance for cell cycle progression. In the present thesis, the focus is on an important function that controls the segregation of the chromosomes during cell division to the next generation of two daughter cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Adhesion-dependent mechanisms regulating mitosis

    Författare :Deepesh Kumar Gupta; Staffan Johansson; Kaisa Haglund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cytokinesis; Centrosome; Septin; Abscission; Mitosis; Integrin; Adhesion; Binucleation; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Integrin-mediated cell adhesion is required for normal cell cycle progression during G1-S transition and for the completion of cytokinesis. Cancer cells have ability to grow anchorage-independently, but the underlying mechanisms and the functional significance for cancer development are unclear. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The roles of inner nuclear membrane proteins during interphase and mitosis

    Författare :Veronica J. Larsson; Einar Hallberg; Neus Visa; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Samp1; mitotic spindle; centrosome; LINC complex; Lamina; Sun1; mitosis; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : The nuclear envelope (NE) consists of two concentric membranes, the outer nuclear membrane (ONM) and the inner nuclear membrane (INM). The LINC (linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton) complex spans both the ONM and the INM connecting the cytoskeleton to the nucleoskeleton and chromatin. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Role of Tripeptidyl peptidase II in cell cycle regulation and tumor progression

    Författare :Vaia Stavropoulou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; Burkitt s lymphoma; cell cycle; centrosome; genetic instability; Golgi; mitosis; tripeptidyl-peptidase II;

    Sammanfattning : Protein degradation is essential for many cellular functions and the ubiquitin-proteasome system controls the turnover of most cellular proteins and plays a pivotal role in the regulation of basic physiological processes and in the pathogenesis of many diseases. Alterations in the metabolism of proteins involved in the regulation of cell cycle and apoptosis may result in uncontrolled cell division, which em lead to malignant transformation and tumor development One melt example is the Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), a highly malignant B-cell tumor characterized by chromosomal translocations that constitutively activate the c-myc oncogene. 5. 5. The ABC of the cell cycle : roles of the mammalian Cdc25 isoforms

    Författare :Andreas Lundgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cell cycle progression is mediated by Cyclin dependent kinases (Cdks) in complex with Cyclins. The activity of the Cyclin-Cdk complexes is regulated through a variety of levels: expression and proteolysis of Cyclins, binding of inhibitors, phosphorylations and subcellular localization. LÄS MER
