1. Regulation of hematopoiesis in the freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus : role of transglutaminase
Sammanfattning : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, has been used as a model for studying hematopoiesis or blood cell production or hematopoiesis and immunity. The work of this thesis aims to investigate the impact of factors such as ROS signaling, Ast1, and the PVF/PVR signaling pathway in controlling stem cell behavior during hematopoiesis and specifically the role of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase (TGase) in regulation of hematopoiesis. 3. Initiation of Innate Immune Responses in the Freshwater Crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus
Sammanfattning : Prophenoloxidase (proPO) is a key enzyme for generation of melanin and is activated by the proPO activating enzyme (ppA) to its active form, PO. The active ppA was purified and cloned from crayfish hemocytes and it is a typical serine proteinase containing a clip, a proline-rich, and a glycine-rich domain. LÄS MER
4. Parasite on Crayfish : Characterisation of Their Pathogenesis, Host Interactions and Diversity
Sammanfattning : The crayfish plague refractory crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, which can harbour the fungal parasite within melanotic sheath, are found to constitutively express the gene encoding for prophenoloxidase (proPO) after mimicking parasite attack. In contrast, the susceptible crayfish, Astacus astacus, responds to the parasite by increased levels of proPO transcript, particularly in the semigranular haemocytes. LÄS MER
5. Melanization and Hemocyte Homeostasis in the Freshwater Crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus
Sammanfattning : Blood cells or hemocytes play important roles in immunity. They are a major source of many immune-related molecules such as antibodies in adaptive immunity of vertebrates and prophenoloxidase (proPO) in invertebrates. LÄS MER
