1. Towards a deeper understanding of the human brain
Sammanfattning : Identifying the proteome variation in different parts of the body provides fundamental molecular details, enabling further findings and mapping of tissue specific proteins. By combining quantitative transcriptomics with qualitative antibody based proteomics, the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project aims to protein profile each human protein-coding gene. LÄS MER
2. Zonal organization of the mouse olfactory systems
Sammanfattning : Animals survey their environment for relevant odorous chemical compounds by means of the olfactory system. This system is in most vertebrates divided into a main and accessory olfactory system with two specialized neuroepithelia, the olfactory and the vomeronasal epithelium, respectively. LÄS MER
3. Effect of timing training in golf and soccer players : skill, movement organization, and brain activity
Sammanfattning : Background Although trainers and athletes consider ‘good timing skills’ to be critical for optimal sport performance, little is known in regard to how sport-specific skills may benefit from timing training. Thus, assuming that all motor performances are mediated by an internal timing mechanism, enhanced motor timing is expected to have positive effects on both planning and execution of movement performance, and consequently on complex sports actions as golf or soccer. 4. Information Processing in the Nervous System. On a Holistic Functional Organization Principle
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the nature of information processing in the nervous system. This issue has been investigated with animal experiments, using male Sprague–Dawley rats, and simulated touch generated by an artificial fingertip with neuromorphic tactile sensors. LÄS MER
5. The architecture of the aging brain : functional reorganization, structural changes, and the role of dopamine receptors
Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with reorganization of functional brain architecture, potentially leading tocognitive decline in older age. However, the mechanisms responsible for alterations in functionalbrain architecture remain poorly understood. LÄS MER
