  1. 11. NMR studies on interactions between the amyloid β peptide and selected molecules

    Författare :Anna Wahlström; Astrid Gräslund; Göran Karlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amyloid β peptide; Alzheimer s disease; Aggregation; Oligomer; Amyloid; Interaction; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy; Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy; Thioflavin T; Detergent; Congo red; Affibody; Cyclodextrin dimer; Metal ion; Chemistry; Kemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is an incurable neurodegenerative disorder linked to the amyloid β (Aβ) peptide, a 38-43 residue peptide. The detailed molecular disease mechanism(s) is (are) unknown, but oligomeric Aβ structures are proposed to be involved. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) and 2,4-diaminobutyric acid (DAB) : possible risk of human exposure, and the effect and function in diatoms

    Författare :Sea-Yong Kim; Sara Rydberg; Sandra Banack; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The toxic secondary metabolites β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) and 2,4-diaminobutyric acid (DAB) produced by phytoplankton groups such as cyanobacteria, diatoms and dinoflagellates are known to cause neurotoxicity in vertebrates. BMAA has been linked to development of the neurodegenerative diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/Parkinsonism dementia complex (ALS/PDC) and Alzheimer's disease. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The amyloid-β precursor protein (APP) and its adaptor protein Fe65 : Two key players in Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Preeti Menon; Anna-Lena Ström; Thorsten Müller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; APP; Fe65; Meprinβ; α-secretase; APP processing; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the abnormal accumulation and aggregation of amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides within the brain. Generation of Aβ occur when the amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP) is proteolytically processed by β- and then γ-secretase in the amyloidogenic pathway. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Detection of Differentially Expressed Genes in Alzheimer's Disease : Regulator of G-protein Signalling 4: A Novel Mediator of APP Processing

    Författare :Lina Emilsson; Elena Jazin; Karoly Mirnics; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; RGS4; ITPKB; RAB3A; APP processinig; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease characterised by progressive memory deterioration and cognitive impairment. Pathological hallmarks are extracellular senile plaques, neurofibrillary tangles and neuron loss. Senile plaques are produced through altered processing of the membrane-bound protein APP. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Mitochondria in Alzheimer's Disease : The Presequence Protease and Mitochondria-Associated ER Membranes

    Författare :Catarina Moreira Pinho; Elzbieta Glaser; Paolo Bernardi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alzheimer s Disease; Mitochondria; Mitochondria-associated ER membranes; human Presequence Protease; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the most prevalent age-related neurodegenerative disorders and the accumulation of the amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) in the temporal lobe has been implicated in the pathology of AD. Synaptic transmission in neuronal cells is a highly energy dependent process, which relies on the presence and proper function of mitochondria. LÄS MER
