  1. 1. Advanced clinical MRI for better outcome in epilepsy surgery. Focusing on fMRI and prediction of verbal memory decline

    Författare :Maria Strandberg; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3T MRI; surface coils; epilepsy surgery; fMRI; TLE; lateralization index; MTL; verbal encoding;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Aim: The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the use of advanced MRI technology to improve results of epilepsy surgery, with focus on language and memory functions. Methods: In paper I, 25 patients with drug-resistant epilepsy were retrospectively included in the study for having been referred to high resolution 3T MRI with and without surface coils. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Towards a semantics of linguistic time : exploring some basic time concepts with special reference to English and Krio

    Författare :Johan Nordlander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; English; Krio; distinction; tense; temporality; mood; modality; aspect; aspectuality; nucleus; dynamicity; verbal constituency; verbal situation; phase; stative; state; processive; process; eventive; event; telic; bounded; Kreolspråk; Sierra Leone; Krio språk ; syntax; Västafrika;

    Sammanfattning : Using English and the West-African creole language Krio as the objects of investigation, this study proposes an analysis in which verbs and the paradigms pertaining to verbs are conceived of as being the only direct carriers of linguistic time encoding. The fundamental assumption is that nominals encode substance, be it concrete or abstract, and that verbals encode abstract substance with time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Tracking the Mind's Eye : Eye movements during mental imagery and memory retrieval

    Författare :Roger Johansson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Mental Imagery; Eye Movements; Eye-tracking; Encoding; Recall; Memory Retrieval; Episodic Memory;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the relationship between eye movements, mental imagery and memory retrieval in four studies based on eye-tracking experiments. The first study is an investigation of eye movements during mental imagery elicited both visually and verbally. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the Value of Pictures in Verbal Cognition

    Författare :Susanne Wiking; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; study-time; comprehension; illustrations; text enhancement; object-names; affective information; pictures; facial expressions; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to analyze the value of pictures in a number of cognitive tasks that are predominantly verbal in nature. Three studies, with three experiments each, are included in the thesis. The first study found automatic interference effects from pictures (facial expressions) on the affective evaluation of words. 5. 5. The power of action and knowledge in episodic memory for school-aged children

    Författare :Farzaneh Badinlou; Reza Kormi-Nouri; Monika Knopf; Agneta Herlitz; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Episodic memory; action memory; enactment effect; subject-performed tasks; experimenter-performed tasks; verbal tasks; school-aged children; memory strategies; information processing;

    Sammanfattning : Developmental and cognitive research suggests that there are age-related differ-ences in children’s episodic memory across school ages due to the development of knowledge, which in turn affects memory strategy use and information pro-cessing over time. However, there are controversial findings related to devel-opmental patterns and factors involved in children’s episodic memory function. LÄS MER
