  1. 6. Biomarkers of ionising radiation relevant to carcinogenesis : Dose, dose rate and LET dependency of the responses

    Författare :Milagrosa López Riego; Andrzej Wojcik; Lovisa Lundholm; Alexandros G. Georgakilas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ionising radiation; low dose; low dose rate; linear energy transfer LET ; mixed beams; dose and dose rate effectiveness factor DDREF ; cancer; DNA damage response; biomarkers; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : A better understanding of the relationship between ionising radiation (IR) dose, dose rate and radiation quality, and the risk of stochastic effects would improve risk extrapolation from atomic bomb survivors’ data. Owing to insufficient statistical power of epidemiological studies to detect excess incidence of cancer following low doses of IR delivered at low dose rates (LDLDR), as typically encountered in most common human exposure scenarios, radiobiological experiments are fundamental to describe the biological effectiveness of LDLDR and to define the underlying molecular mechanisms. 2. 7. On Uncertainty and Data Worth in Decision Analysis for Contaminated Land

    Författare :Pär-Erik Back; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty; decision analysis; risk; sampling; data worth; soil sampling; contaminated land;

    Sammanfattning : Contaminated soil and groundwater is a problem that has received increased attention in the last decade. Decision-making about investigation strategies, protective actions, and remedial actions is based on sparse and uncertain information, primarily data of contaminant concentrations and geological information. 3. 8. Kinetic Models in Life Science — Contributions to Methods and Applications

    Författare :Joachim Almquist; Stiftelsen Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centrum för Industrimatematik (FCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NLME modeling; kinetic models; FOCE; Mig1; cell-to-cell variability; pharmacokinetics; parameter estimation; ticagrelor; atrial fibrillation; Kv1.5;

    Sammanfattning : Kinetic models in life science combine mathematics and biology to answer questions from areas such as cell biology, physiology, biotechnology, and drug development. The idea of kinetic models is to represent a biological system by a number of biochemical reactions together with mathematical expressions for the reaction kinetics, i.e. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Environmental Modelling : Learning from Uncertainty

    Författare :John M. Juston; Per-Erik Jansson; Jens Christian Refsgaard; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Models; data; error; uncertainty; hydrology; soil carbon; wetlands; phosphorus;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental models are important tools; however uncertainty is pervasive in the modeling process.   Current research has shown that understanding and representing these uncertainties is critical when decisions are expected to be made from the modeling results. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Sustainable nutrition: Opportunities, risks and uncertainties from environmental and health perspectives

    Författare :Elinor Hallström; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; disease; health; nutrition; land use; climate impact; Diet;

    Sammanfattning : Food production and consumption are key drivers of environmental pressures and are essential factors in the promotion and maintenance of health. Production of food occupies more than one third of global land areas and is estimated to be responsible for some 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. LÄS MER
