1. A Changing Arctic Climate : Science and Policy in the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment
Sammanfattning : Climate change has often been framed as a global issue but slow progress in the global climate negotiations and an increasing need to plan for local adaptation have made it increasingly salient to also discuss the potential of other arenas for climate policy and knowledge production. This dissertation analyzes the interplay between science and policy at the international regional level based on a study of an assessment of the impacts of climate change in the Arctic. LÄS MER
2. Climate, Conflict and Coping Capacity : The Impact of Climate Variability on Organized Violence
Sammanfattning : Understanding the conflict potential of climate variability is critical for assessing and dealing with the societal implications of climate change. Yet, it remains poorly understood under what circumstances – and how – extreme weather events and variation in precipitation patterns affect organized violence. LÄS MER
3. Hydrological Modeling for Climate Change Impact Assessment : Transferring Large-Scale Information from Global Climate Models to the Catchment Scale
Sammanfattning : A changing climate can severely perturb regional hydrology and thereby affect human societies and life in general. To assess and simulate such potential hydrological climate change impacts, hydrological models require reliable meteorological variables for current and future climate conditions. LÄS MER
4. Urban drainage and climate change : impact assessment
Sammanfattning : According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2007), the global mean temperature has increased by 0,7 °C during the last 100 years and, as a consequence, the hydrological cycle has intensified with, for example, more intense rainfall events. As urban drainage systems have been developed over a long period of time and design criteria are based upon climatic characteristics, these changes will affect the systems and the city accordingly. 5. Uncertainties in tropical precipitation and radiative feedbacks under climate change
Sammanfattning : Clouds have a significant impact on climate. They contribute to controlling the planetary energy balance, and the precipitation distribution. Global Climate Models (GCMs) designed to reproduce the state of the climate system, however, have difficulties representing clouds. LÄS MER
