  1. 11. The role of cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript in endocrine cells

    Författare :Liliya Shcherbina; Neuroendokrin cellbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :Type 2 Diabetes; T2D; cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript; CART; beta-cell; K-cell; L-cell; insulin; GIP; GLP-1; incretin hormones;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disease characterized by insufficient insulin secretion and insulin resistance. Disturbed beta-cell function is the final culprit that leads to the development of T2D. In addition, impaired incretin effect is likely a part of the pathogenesis of T2D. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Advanced molecular tools for diagnostic analyses of RNA and antibodies in situ and in solution

    Författare :Mengqi Wang; Ulf Landegren; Anders Ståhlberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Homogenous serological assay; PCR-based antibody detection; Proximity extension assay; SARS-CoV-2 antibody; Extracellular vesicles; Proximity barcoding assay; in situ superRCA; mutant transcript;

    Sammanfattning : Advanced molecular diagnostics uses in vitro biological assays to detect nucleic acids or proteins even in low concentrations across samples, allowing for the identification of biomarkers, monitoring the course of the disease over time, and selection of appropriate therapy. In this thesis, I focus on development and early applications of several molecular tools of expected value in research, and eventually also clinically. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The art of transcriptome reconstruction : with applications in Picea abies (L.) H. Karst

    Författare :Karl Johan Westrin; Olof Emanuelsson; Henric Zazzi; Lukas Käll; Jens Sundström; Jarkko Salojärvi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcriptome reconstruction; transcriptome assembly; transcript isoform detection; Picea abies; acrocona; cone setting; differential expression; gene families; miRNA; quality assessment; transkriptomrekonstruktion; sammansättning av transkriptom; detektering av transkriptisoform; rödgran; kottegran; kottsättning; differentiellt uttryck; genfamiljer; kvalitetsutvärdering; miRNA; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transcriptome reconstruction is an important component in the bioinformatical part of transcriptome studies. When a reference genome is missing, highly fragmented or incomplete, a de novo transcriptome assembly is the transcriptome reconstruction approach of choice, since in such situations, a simple alignment (or mapping) would not necessarily give all theinformation concerning splice junctions, isoforms or even the full extent of the gene. 4. 14. Computational Analysis of Tumour Heterogeneity

    Författare :Stefanie Friedrich; Erik Sonnhammer; Martin Hemberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tumour heterogeneity; human genome and gene expression analyses; pathway annotation; fusion transcript detection; copy number calling; and high-resolution data; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Every tumour is unique and characterised by its genetic, epigenetic, phenotypic, and morphological signature. The diversity observed between and within tumours, and over time, is termed tumour heterogeneity. An increased heterogeneity within a tumour correlates with cancer progression, higher resistance rates, and poorer outcome. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Methods for transcriptome reconstruction, with an application in Picea abies (L.) H. Karst

    Författare :Karl Johan Westrin; Olof Emanuelsson; Björn Nystedt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acrocona; cone setting; transcript isoform detection; miRNA; Picea abies; quality assessment; transcriptome assembly; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Transcriptome reconstruction is an important component in the bioinformatical part of transcriptome studies. It is particulary interesting when a reference genome is missing, highly fragmented or incomplete, since in such situations, a simple alignment (or mapping) would not necessarily tell the full story.
