    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of innovative micro-scale platforms as a means to address the current challenges within the field of cell biology, and to provide an interface between miniaturized analytical technology and experimental systems for the life sciences. The work includes an analytical platform for rapid assessment of the viability of adherent single cells; a surface patterning strategy for investigations of cell-to-cell communication via protrusions; a versatile microfluidic probe in SU-8 hard-polymer, and a microfabricated millimeter-wave measurement system for the identification and characterization of niosome (non-ionic surfactant vesicle) constituents, which is operated in a label-free, non-invasive manner.     Sammanfattning : Light is the primary source of energy on our planet and has been a significant driver in the evolution of human society and technology. Light finds applications in two-dimensional (2D) photolithography and three-dimensional (3D) printing, where a pattern is transferred to a material of interest by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, and in laser scribing and cutting, where high power lasers are used to pattern the surface of objects or cut through the bulk of the material of interest. Companies like Motorola, Volvo, and Philips Electronics have made efforts to improve the communication needed for such planning, as they recognize the potential danger of not having enough market information in early R&D stages when many important business decisions are made, or of lacking the required technical competence when creating market plans.     Sammanfattning : The discovery of ferroelectricity in CMOS-compatible oxides, such as doped hafnium oxide, has opened new possibilities for electronics by reviving the use of ferroelectric implementations on modern technology platforms. This thesis presents the ground-up integration of ferroelectric HfO2 on a thermally sensitive III-V nanowire platform leading to the successful implementation of ferroelectric transistors (FeFETs), tunnel junctions (FTJs), and varactors for mm-wave applications.
