  1. 1. Boreal land surface water and heat balance : Modelling soil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere behaviour

    Författare :David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soil; snow; land surface heat exchange; forest; arable land; eddy-correlation; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning : The water and heat exchange in thesoil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere system was studied in order toimprove the quantitative knowledge of land surface processes.In this study, numerical simulation models and availabledatasets representing arable land, sub-alpine snowpack, andboreal forest were evaluated at both diurnal and seasonaltimescales. 2. 2. Land surface heat exchange over snow and frozen soil

    Författare :David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surface energy balance; Snow; Boreal forest; SVAT models; Eddy-correlation Measurements; Latent heat flux; Sensible heat flux; Net radiation; Soil temperature; Aerodynamic roughness; Surface resistance; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning : The energy exchange in the soil-snow-vegetation-atmospheresystem was studied to improve the quantitative knowledge of thegoverning processes. The lack of such knowledge contributes tothe uncertainty in the applicability of many existing modelsindependent of the temporal or spatial scale. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ground freeze-thaw, snow and roads in northern Sweden

    Författare :Maria Sarady; Eva Sahlin; Magnus Bohlin; Hanna Ridefelt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Ground freeze-thaw; snow depth; roads; northern Sweden; geography; Geography; Geografi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis freeze-thaw along roads in northern Sweden is examined. The examinations are put in a context of changing climate and its amplification towards the Arctic region on earth. The research focuses on the impact of a warmer climate on ground freeze-thaw and in exten- sion road maintenance in the region. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Effect of Snow on Plants and Their Interactions with Herbivores

    Författare :Mikaela Torp; Johan Olofsson; Christa Mulder; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Snow; arctic ecosystem; plant-herbivore interactions; phenology; nitrogen; phenolics; experimental manipulation; natural gradient; inter-annual variability; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ongoing climate changes are predicted to accelerate fast in arctic regions with increases in both temperatures and precipitation. Although the duration of snow cover is generally expected to decrease in the future, snow depth may paradoxically increase in those areas where a large amount of the elevated precipitation will fall as snow. 5. 5. Quantifying the impact of winter warming on the Arctic carbon cycle

    Författare :Alexandra Pongrácz; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; snow; permafrost; LPJ-GUESS; non-growing season; carbon cycling; LPJ-GUESS; Arctic; permafrost; snow; carbon cycling; non-growing season;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic has undergone extreme changes during the last decades and is warming over twice the global average. There has been increasing interest in understanding how warming and changes in snow and rainfall will affect high-latitude ecosystems. LÄS MER
