1. Boreal land surface water and heat balance : Modelling soil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere behaviour
Sammanfattning : The water and heat exchange in thesoil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere system was studied in order toimprove the quantitative knowledge of land surface processes. In this study, numerical simulation models and availabledatasets representing arable land, sub-alpine snowpack, andboreal forest were evaluated at both diurnal and seasonaltimescales. 2. Land surface heat exchange over snow and frozen soil
Sammanfattning : The energy exchange in the soil-snow-vegetation-atmospheresystem was studied to improve the quantitative knowledge of thegoverning processes. The lack of such knowledge contributes tothe uncertainty in the applicability of many existing modelsindependent of the temporal or spatial scale. LÄS MER
3. Ground freeze-thaw, snow and roads in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : In this thesis freeze-thaw along roads in northern Sweden is examined. The examinations are put in a context of changing climate and its amplification towards the Arctic region on earth. The research focuses on the impact of a warmer climate on ground freeze-thaw and in exten- sion road maintenance in the region. LÄS MER
4. The Effect of Snow on Plants and Their Interactions with Herbivores
Sammanfattning : The ongoing climate changes are predicted to accelerate fast in arctic regions with increases in both temperatures and precipitation. Although the duration of snow cover is generally expected to decrease in the future, snow depth may paradoxically increase in those areas where a large amount of the elevated precipitation will fall as snow. 5. Quantifying the impact of winter warming on the Arctic carbon cycle
Sammanfattning : The Arctic has undergone extreme changes during the last decades and is warming over twice the global average. There has been increasing interest in understanding how warming and changes in snow and rainfall will affect high-latitude ecosystems. LÄS MER
