  1. 1. Nitrous oxide emission from soil : On extrapolation from soil environmental factors

    Författare :Kerstin Robertson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; N20 emission; denitrification; soil factors; soil moisture; N03-; NH4 ; regression analysis; PLS analysis; IR remote sensing; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrous oxide(N20) is a natural component of the atmosphere which contributes both to the greenhouse effect and to the destruction of stratospheric ozone. National as well as global inventories indicate thatboth natural and anthropogenic emissions from terrestrial ecosystems constitute a large fraction of the annual loading of N20 on the atmosphere. 2. 2. Spring water stress in Scots pine: interaction of snow and soil temperature

    Författare :Per-Erik Mellander; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Low temperature; soil warming; transpiration; root water uptake; carbon dioxide assimilation; soil frost; silvicultural practice; Pinus Sylvestris; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Water use and net carbon assimilation during spring was examined on Scots pine trees exposed to different soil warming dynamics in the field. Sap flow, needle water potential and net carbon assimilation were measured on trees that were exposed to a wide range of soil temperature regimes caused by manipulating the snow cover on tree-scale soil plots. 3. 3. Bacterial and fungal growth in soil: The effect of temperature and substrate addition

    Författare :Stephanie Reischke; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bacterial growth; Fungal growth; Respiration; Carbon loading; Glucose mineralisation; Temperature adaptation; Temperature sensitivity; Temperature dependence;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria and fungi are the main agents in decomposition of soil organic matter. Their activity is determined by the availability and quality of substrate, especially its content of carbon, but also nitrogen and phosphorus. Other environmental factors, which affect the activity of the microbial community in soil, are temperature, moisture and pH. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Carbon stock and fluxes in Nyungwe forest and Ruhande Arboretum in Rwanda

    Författare :Donat Nsabimana; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon stock; Litterfall production; Soil CO2 efflux; or soil respiration; Soil temperature; Soil water content; Spatial variation; Seasonal and diurnal variations;

    Sammanfattning : Conservation and sequestration of carbon in forest ecosystems are potential strategies to reduce or stabilize the atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations and mitigate climate change. Estimating the... LÄS MER

  5. 5. Factors Affecting Rates of Change in Soil Bacterial Communities

    Författare :Marie Pettersson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; Plant ecology; Växtekologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; DGGE; PLFA; TdR-incorporation; function; structure; tolerance; adaptation; pH; soil bacterial community; temperature;

    Sammanfattning : The soil bacterial community is under the constant influence of its environment. Changing any of the factors affecting the bacterial community will induce a selection pressure which, with time, will change the community. In this work the effect of changing the temperature or pH on the soil bacterial community was studied. LÄS MER
