1. Occupational exposure during production of wood pellets in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess workers’ air exposure to wood dust and various chemicals, and to evaluate the variability in exposure and occupational dermal exposure to resin acids during the production of wood pellets in Sweden. Personal air measurements of wood dust, monoterpenes, resin acids and nitrogen dioxide (as a marker of diesel exhaust), accompanied by area measurements of these substances, VOCs and carbon monoxide, were performed at up to ten plants. 3. Systemic effects of occupational exposure to arsenic : with special reference to peripheral circulation and nerve function
Sammanfattning : Smelter workers who were exposed to air-borne arsenic for a mean of 23 years, and age-matched referents, were examined with clinical, physiological, and neurophysiological methods. Exposure to arsenic in workroom air was estimated to have been around the Swedish occupational limits, which were 500 yg/m before 1975 and 50 yg/ra thereafter. LÄS MER
4. Virtual reality exposure therapy for spider phobia
Sammanfattning : Exposure therapy for specific phobia involving systematic and repeated presentation of an aversive stimuli or situation is a highly effective treatment for reducing fear and anxiety. Dissemination of this evidence-based treatment has proved challenging, however, and for over 20 years an alternative method of delivery using virtual reality technology has been explored with positive results. Sammanfattning : Metbolic disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, liver lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome are increasing rapidly and have largely been attributed to genetic background and changes in diet, exercise and aging. However, there is now considerable evidence showing that other environmental factors, including environmental chemicals, may contribute to the rapid increase in the incidence of these metabolic diseases.
