1. Occupational exposure during production of wood pellets in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess workers’ air exposure to wood dust and various chemicals, and to evaluate the variability in exposure and occupational dermal exposure to resin acids during the production of wood pellets in Sweden. Personal air measurements of wood dust, monoterpenes, resin acids and nitrogen dioxide (as a marker of diesel exhaust), accompanied by area measurements of these substances, VOCs and carbon monoxide, were performed at up to ten plants. 2. Cabin Air Quality in Commercial Aircraft : Exposure, Symptoms and Signs
Sammanfattning : The objective of the dissertation was to study the cabin environment, and identify personal and environmental risk factors, associated with symptoms, and perception of cabin air quality. Another objective was to study if ban of smoking, and increased relative air humidity on intercontinental flights, could have a beneficial health effect. LÄS MER
3. Estimating children’s exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances
Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are highly stable, surface active chemicals, which are water- and oil/stain-repellent. Because of their unique properties, PFASs are widely used in consumer products. LÄS MER
4. Dermal exposure determinants : a pesticide exposure assessment approach for developing countries
Sammanfattning : Background: We know little about the levels of exposure to pesticide in subsistence farmers mainly because of lack of easy to use and low cost pesticide exposure assessment methods. Aim: This thesis aimed to develop a semi-quantitative approach to assess dermal exposure to pesticides relevant for conditions in developing countries. LÄS MER
5. Biomarkers of exposure to pesticides in humans
Sammanfattning : Almost every human is exposed to pesticides, in work environments, by domestic use and via diet, drinking water and personal products. Current research expresses concern that low dose exposure over time can lead to adverse health effects. LÄS MER
