1. Systemic effects of occupational exposure to arsenic : with special reference to peripheral circulation and nerve function
Sammanfattning : Smelter workers who were exposed to air-borne arsenic for a mean of 23 years, and age-matched referents, were examined with clinical, physiological, and neurophysiological methods. Exposure to arsenic in workroom air was estimated to have been around the Swedish occupational limits, which were 500 yg/m before 1975 and 50 yg/ra thereafter. LÄS MER
2. Effects of nucleus pulposus on nerve root circulation and function. Morphologic and functional studies in an experimental model using porcine spinal nerve roots
Sammanfattning : Sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation has for many decades been viewed as a consequence of mechanical compression exerted on spinal nerve roots by the bulging disc tissues. Recent research has, however, indicated that extruded nucleus pulposus (NP) from the intervertebral disc might cause functional and endoneurial morphological changes in spinal nerve roots, without mechanical compression. 3. Peripheral polyneuropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance. Correlations between morphology, neurophysiology, and clinical findings
Sammanfattning : Diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy (PN) is a common and serious complication of diabetes. The prevalence of PN is rising with the global burden of type 2 diabetes. The causal mechanisms of PN are not fully understood, but both vascular and metabolic factors play a role. LÄS MER

5. Peripheral and central effects of nerve regeneration : Experimental and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : A nerve injury in the hand often results in profound abnmmalities in sensory perception despite careful alignment and microsurgical repair in order to facilitate accurate nerve regeneration. The present experimental and clinical studies were undertaken in an attempt to functionally evaluate peripheral and central effects of nerve regeneration. LÄS MER
