  1. 1. Serotonin in Fear and Anxiety

    Författare :S Melker Hagsäter; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; anxiety; fear; SSRI; IBS;

    Sammanfattning : That the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HT) has a central role in fear and anxiety is supported by numerous experimental and clinical studies. Arguably the most illustrative example is the effect of serotonergic-acting drugs, and in particular the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), in the treatment of anxiety disorders. 2. 2. Influence of serotonin on anxiety-like behavior in rat

    Författare :Robert Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anxiety; Serotonin; SSRI;

    Sammanfattning : It is well-established that serotonin is involved in the regulation of mood and behaviour, partly implied by the therapeutic effect of prolonged treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) on mood and anxiety disorders. However, the mechanisms behind the paradoxical exacerbation of anxiety described during initial treatment, as well as behind the therapeutic effects of prolonged treatment with SSRIs, remain poorly understood. 3. 3. Involvement of non-dopaminergic systems in L-DOPA-induced dyskinsia

    Författare :Daniella Rylander; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; Dyskinesia; L-DOPA; 6-OHDA rat model; MPTP monkey model; glutamate; serotonin; DA.; 5-HT;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) does not merely involve the dopamine (DA) system but also include non-dopaminergic systems such as glutamate and serotonin (5-HT). An aberrant glutamate transmission at the corticostriatal synapse, has been linked to LID. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the association between panic disorder and autonomic regulation – With special focus on the roles of respiration and on the catechol-O-methyltransferase gene

    Författare :Kristina Annerbrink; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :panic disorder; serotonin; respiration; polymorphism; COMT Val158Met; HCRTR2 G1246A; blood pressure; anthropometry;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Panic disorder is a psychiatric disorder characterized by sudden attacks of intense anxiety. It displays a lot of features suggesting that it may be associated with an underlying aberration in the autonomic regulation of heart activity and respiration: i) the attacks are often characterized by respiratory symptoms and symptoms from the heart, ii) the attacks can be elicited by respiratory stimulants, iii) between attacks, patients with panic disorder often display enhanced respiratory variability and reduced heart rate variability, and iv) patients with panic disorder display enhanced prevalence of respiratory disorders and enhanced mortality in cardiovascular disease. 5. 5. On the biology of premenstrual dysphoria and panic disorder

    Författare :Hoi-Por Ho; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; reuptake inhibitor; estrogen; progesterone; irritability; respiration; estrus cycle; polymorphism; resident intruder model;

    Sammanfattning : Premenstrual dysphoria (PMD) afflicts 7% of all women of fertile age, and is characterized by symptoms such as irritability, sadness, and mood swings, appearing regularly before menstruation, and being of such severity that they markedly reduce quality of life. The symptoms are dependent of sex steroids, and seem to be under the influence of serotonin, since they respond to treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs). LÄS MER
