  1. 1. Resin acids in commercial products and the work environment of Swedish wood pellets production : Analytical methodology, occurrence and exposure

    Författare :Sara Axelsson; Ulrika Nilsson; Kåre Eriksson; Håkan Westberg; Martin Harper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rosin; resin acids; HPLC ESI-MS; air sampling; urine samples; wood pellets; wood dust; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the work this thesis is based upon were to develop convenient analytical procedures for determining resin acids in biological and environmental matrices, and apply them to enhance understanding of the occurrence, exposure to and uptake by exposed individuals of resin acids. Particular focus has been on the workplace environment of the Swedish wood pellets industry. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Machining of wood : cutting data and its effect on the work environment and surface quality

    Författare :Jan Palmqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Machining using circular tools is very frequent in the wood manufacturing industry. Such machinery is very efficient but also leads to problems, for example in the indoor factory environment, in the form of unhealthy wood dust emissions. Another example is imperfections in wood products such as unacceptable surface quality. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Occupational exposure during production of wood pellets in Sweden

    Författare :Katja Hagström; Kåre Eriksson; Gunilla Lindström; Paul Demers; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Occupational hygiene; wood dust; resin acids; VOC; variability; determinant of exposure; overexposure; dermal exposure; Occupational medicine; Yrkesmedicin; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess workers’ air exposure to wood dust and various chemicals, and to evaluate the variability in exposure and occupational dermal exposure to resin acids during the production of wood pellets in Sweden. Personal air measurements of wood dust, monoterpenes, resin acids and nitrogen dioxide (as a marker of diesel exhaust), accompanied by area measurements of these substances, VOCs and carbon monoxide, were performed at up to ten plants. 4. 4. Wood Fungi and Forest Fire

    Författare :Fredrik Carlsson; Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson; Mattias Edman; Svante Holm; Jacob Heilmann-Clausen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Forest fires have been the major stand-replacing/modifying disturbance in boreal forests. To adapt to fire disturbance, different strategies have evolved. This thesis focuses on wood fungi, and the effect of forest fire on this organism group. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Författare :Anders Jaretun; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Potassium; Chloride; Chemical recovery; Leaching; Crystallization; Kraft pulping; Non-process elements; Solubility; Local composition; Excess properties; Osmotic coefficient; Electrolytes; Activity coefficient; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Sammanfattning : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately.
