  1. 31. Molecular Studies of Mast Cell Migration and Apoptosis : Two Ways of Regulating Mast Cell Numbers at Sites of Inflammation

    Författare :Jessica Alfredsson; Gunnar Nilsson; Hans-Uwe Simon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; mast cell; SCF; IL-3; FcεRI; migration; apoptosis; Bim; Bcl-2; Bcl-XL; Akt; FOXO; MAPK; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Upon activation mast cells release numerous proinflammatory mediators. With this feature, mast cells play an important role in host defense against pathogens, and are involved in tissue remodeling and wound healing. However, in cases of excessive inflammation the effects of mast cells are detrimental. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Regulation of Mast Cell Survival

    Författare :Christine Möller; Gunnar Nilsson; Alf Grandien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; mast cell; A1; Bfl-1; Bim; Bcl-2 family members; basophil; SCF; forkhead; survival; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are long-lived effector cells of importance for both acute and chronic inflammations. Mast cells can be activated in many different ways, leading to the release of inflammatory mediators. In contrast to most other inflammatory cells, activated mast cells have the capacity to recover, regranulate and thereby be activated again. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Studies of p63 and p63 related proteins in patients diagnosed with oral lichen planus

    Författare :Majid Ebrahimi; Karin Nylander; Isaac Van der waal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa and also one of the more common mucosal conditions mostly affecting middle aged individuals. Even though OLP is well investigated the etiology of this disease is still unknown, even if autoimmunity as a possible etiologic factor has been suggested. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Molecular mechanisms involved in glioma cell interactions in vitro and studies of PDGF B transcript variants

    Författare :Susanne Heller; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme is a malignant brain tumor characterized by heterogeneity.Interactions between heterogeneous tumor cells are supposed to affect the behavior of awhole tumor cell population. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Regulatory Effects of TGF-β Superfamily Members on Normal and Neoplastic Thyroid Epithelial Cells

    Författare :Åsa Franzén; Paschalis Sideras; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; activin; BMP; cadherin; carcinoma; cell cycle arrest; dedifferentiation; EGF; growth inhibition; invasion; Smad; TGF-β; thyroid; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Thyroid growth and function is partly regulated by growth factors binding to receptors on the cell surface. In the present thesis, the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily members have been studied for their role in regulation of growth and differentiation of both normal and neoplastic thyroid epithelial cells.
