6. Expression of recombinant neutralizing anti-HIV-1 antibodies in bacteria and eukaryotic cells
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this study was to investigate and optimize techniques for eukaryotic expression of antibody molecules (IgG, Fab and scFV-ê formats), derived from an immune phage displayed Fab library and reactive against HIV-1 glycoproteins gp120 and gp41. Light and heavy-chain (Fd) DNA from a number of Fab clones were transferred from a prokaryotic phagemid vectors to mammalian expression vectors. LÄS MER
7. Structural and functional studies of nutrient and drug uptake systems
Sammanfattning : Orally ingested nutrients and drugs are selectively absorbed from our small intestines into the bloodstream through various membrane-integrated transporters. The present study focuses mainly on a specific absorption route, namely the proton dependent oligopeptide transporters (POTs). LÄS MER
8. Evolution of biological systems linked to complex cell architectures in Planctomycetota
Sammanfattning : The eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and membrane-enclosed organelles for functions such as energy production, whereas the prokaryotic cells have a cell wall but no intracellular membrane-bound structures. Species of the Planctomycetota phylum are classified as bacteria but have diverse and complex cell architectures. LÄS MER
9. Ecology of fungal denitrifiers in terrestrial ecosystems : global patterns and effects of management in agricultural soils
Sammanfattning : Denitrification is the dominant source of nitrous oxide (N2O) from terrestrial ecosystems, a potent greenhouse gas and stratospheric ozone-depleting agent. Fungi can perform denitrification and terminate the process with N2O, making them a potentially important source of N2O. LÄS MER
10. Structure, prediction, evolution and genome wide studies of membrane proteins
Sammanfattning : α-helical membrane proteins constitute 20-30% of all proteins in a cell and are involved in many essential cellular functions. The structure is only known for a few hundred of them, which makes structural models important. LÄS MER
