  1. 1. Feature Informativeness, Curse-of-Dimensionality and Error Probability in Discriminant Analysis

    Författare :Tatjana Pavlenko; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; Matematik; Mathematics; feature selection; Discriminant analysis; feature informativeness; growing dimension assymptotics; operations research; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; Multivariate analysis; MATHEMATICS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four papers on high-dimensional discriminant analysis. Throughout, the curse-of-dimensionality effect on the precision of the discrimination performance is emphasized. A growing dimension asymptotic approach is used for assessing this effect and the limiting error probability are taken as the performance criteria. LÄS MER

  2. 2. "Vad skulle x kunna vara?" : andragradsekvation och andragradsfunktion som objekt för lärande

    Författare :Constanta Olteanu; Shirley Booth; Torgny Ottosson; Ingemar Holgersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; parameters; unknown quantity; argument; second degree equations; quadratic functions; teaching; mathematics education; experience; theory of variation; dimensions of variation; Education; Pedagogik; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Sammanfattning : Algebraic equations and functions play an important role in various mathematical topics, including algebra, trigonometry, linear programming and calculus. Accordingly, various documents, such as the most recent Swedish curriculum (Lpf 94) for upper secondary school and the course syllabi in mathematics, specify what the students should learn in Mathematics Course B. 3. 3. Stochastic Modeling and Operational Optimization in District Heating Systems

    Författare :Lars Arvastson; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistik; actuarial mathematics; programming; operations research; Statistics; Matematik; optimization; Mathematics; simulation; prediction; District heating; grey-box modeling; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik; Systems engineering; computer technology; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Operation of a district heating system is accomplished via a sequence of decisions by the operators controlling the system. These decisions are based on expectations of conditions in the system that are not known at decision time. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Road profile statistics relevant for vehicle fatigue

    Författare :Klas Bogsjö; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; operations research; Statistics; Matematik; Mathematics; model evaluation; vehicle fatigue; stochastic processes; road roughness; Road profiles; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Sammanfattning : Road profiles are studied from a vehicle fatigue point of view. A wide range of roads have been measured: from smooth motorways to very rough gravel roads. It is observed that the road profiles consist of irregular sections, which makes the stationary Gaussian model unsuitable (Paper A). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Asymptotic Expansions of Crossing Rates of Stationary Random Processes

    Författare :Oskar Hagberg; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; operationsanalys; aktuariematematik; programming; operations research; Matematik; Statistics; sea elevation; Mathematics; asymptotic expansions; wave crest hight distribution; Saddle point approximations; Crossing rate; programmering;

    Sammanfattning : The crossing rate of a stationary random process is a valuble tool when studying crest hight distributions and maxima of sea level elevation. This thesis considers two approximation techinques for cases when the crossing rate cannot be exactly computed. LÄS MER
