  1. 6. Studies on medical and immunological intervention in HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Bo Hejdeman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV; HAART; CD4 ; viral load; treatment interruption; immunotherapy; rgp 160; HIV-1 DNA;

    Sammanfattning : The very first HIV-1 infected patients who received antiretroviral combination therapy (HAART) were severely ill and had very low CD4+ T cell counts. We describe a group of severely ill HIV- I infected patients monitored for the first two years of their HAART. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Molecular dynamics in HIV-1 infection of the brain

    Författare :Mariantonietta Di Stefano; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of the present thesis was to investigate the molecular dynamics in HIV-l infection of the brain. HIV-l infects the brain early during the infection and causes neurological syndromes and neuropathological modifications. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Ultra-deep characterization of viral quasispecies in HIV infection

    Författare :Charlotte Hedskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 has the ability to rapidly diversify and adapt to changes in its environment, such as evading the host immune response, altering cell tropism, and developing resistance to antiretroviral drugs. Minority HIV-1 variants have been shown to be of clinical significance, especially those with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) drug resistance mutations or determinants of CXCR4 phenotype (X4-virus). 4. 9. Recombinant CXCR4/CCR5 hybrid receptors as tools for studies of HIV-1 receptor usage

    Författare :Liselotte Antonsson; Drug Target Discovery; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; evolution; pathogenesis; cerebrospinal fluid; Medicine human and vertebrates ; TAK-779; RANTES; CXCR4; CCR5; coreceptor; GPCR; HIV-1;

    Sammanfattning : The chemokine receptors CCR5 and CXCR4 are required, together with CD4, for the entry of HIV-1 into target cells. CCR5 using HIV-1 dominates during transmission and the asymptomatic phase of infection. During progression, virus phenotypes with the ability to use CXCR4 emerge in about 50% of infected individuals. 5. 10. Factors influencing the evolution of HIV-1

    Författare :Markus Birk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV; antiretroviral treatment; evolution; gag; pol; env;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the high replication rate and the low fidelity of the viral reverse transcriptase (RT), various mutations are introduced continuously into the gene pool of HIV-1. Together with recombination events this leads to the evolution of countless quasispecies. LÄS MER
