11. Functional studies of microRNAs in development and cancer
Sammanfattning : MicroRNAs (miRNAs) COMPRISE a large family of small (~23 nucleotide in length), endogenous RNAs that regulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. Functional studies have indicated that miRNAs participate in the regulation of nearly all cellular processes investigated so far, including differentiation, apoptosis, and proliferation. LÄS MER
12. Genetics of Tetrapyrrole Synthesis in Gram-Positive Bacteria
Sammanfattning : The organization and regulation of genes for tetrapyrrole synthesis were studied in low G+C Gram-positive bacteria. Clusters of genes encoding enzymes for tetrapyrrole biosynthesis were cloned from Bacillus sphaericus, Bacillus stearothermophilus, Brevibacillus brevis and Paenibacillus macerans. LÄS MER
13. Structural and Functional Studies of the Wilms' Tumour 1 Protein (WT1) in Interaction with Nucleic acids
Sammanfattning : The WT1 protein, a product of the Wilms’ tumour 1 gene (WT1) is a zinc finger transcription factor implicated in a number of cellular processes particularly involved in the development of the urogenital system. Mutations in this gene have been implicated in abnormal development of the urogenital system resulting in syndromes such as the Denys-Drash, WAGR and Frasier and in the childhood kidney malignancy, Wilms’ tumour. 14. The odyssey of MYC transcript from the nucleus to the cytoplasm : the molecular mechanism of the gene gating in human cancer cells
Sammanfattning : Pathological expression of the MYC oncogene is a common denominator in a wide range of cancers and is linked with abnormal cell proliferation. To achieve this status, the MYC gene benefits from being embedded in a region rich in enhancers and super-enhancers that are often absent in the normal cell counterparts. LÄS MER
15. Untangling the contribution of untranslated regions to mRNA translation in health and disease
Sammanfattning : Protein homeostasis is essential for living organisms and a consequence of steps of the gene expression pathway such as transcription, mRNA translation as well as the degradation of mRNA and proteins. These major cellular events demand tight control, high maintenance, and require a large proportion of cellular resources. LÄS MER
