1. Polyelectrolytes and Polycomplexes in Biotechnology
Sammanfattning : Polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) are characterized by many useful properties that endow them with high potential in different areas of biotechnology. This thesis describes the development and analyses of some new systems and methods utilizing poly(acrylic acid) (PAA), poly(methacrylic acid) (PMA), poly (N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridinium bromide) (PEVP) and PMA-PEVP complexes. 2. Phase Behavior and Solution Properties of Aqueous Polyion-Surfactant Ion Systems
Sammanfattning : Polyelectrolytes and oppositely charged surfactants interact through attractive electrostatic forces, which in many cases lead to phase separation already at low total concentrations. During the past 10-15 years investigations of these systems have been simplified through the use of complex salts that consist of surfactants with polymeric counterions in a 1:1 charge stoichiometry (no excess simple counterions present). 3. Polymer Bound Water-Soluble Metal Phosphine Complexes-Preparation, Characterisation and Catalytic Application
Sammanfattning : Four new water-soluble phosphines have been prepared by utilising water-soluble polymers as charge carrying units. Coupling of methyl-4-(diphenylphosphino)-benzyl-amine or 4-diphenylphosphino benzaldehyde to poly-acrylic acid and poly-ethylene imine, respectively, afford the ligands PAA-PNH and PEI-PNH. LÄS MER
4. Water-swelling tablets based on hydrophobically modified poly(acrylic acid) - Effects of amphiphiles on swelling and drug release
Sammanfattning : An important issue within the pharmaceutical world today is the increasing number of poorly soluble drugs. These often show a low bioavailability and a susceptibility to varying conditions in the intestine. LÄS MER
5. Signal Enhancement by Dynamic Polymers in Quartz Crystal Microbalance Applications
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis presents studies of signal enhancement by dynamic polymers in quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) applications. The aim of the study has been to determine the potential for the use of polymers on QCM sensors for signal enhancement in molecular interaction studies. LÄS MER
