21. Molecular aspects of cellular radiosensitivity in small cell lung carcinoma
Sammanfattning : To clarify some important molecular aspects of radiosensitivity (RS) in small cell (SCLC) compared with non small cell (NSCLC) lung carcinoma, five studies focusing on DNA damage repair, cell cycle checkpoints and apoptosis were performed. As repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DNA dsb), a critical DNA lesion, may be an important determinant of cellular RS, induction and rejoining of DNA dsb were studied using pulsed field gel electrophoresis in a radiosensitive SCLC line, U-1285 and a radioresistant NSCLC line, U-1810 (paper I). 22. Regulation of T cell apoptosis by calcium and zinc ions
Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is a major form of cell death involved in fundamental processes in the mammalian immune system. Although extensive studies have been carried out to explore the mechanisms involved in lymphocyte apoptosis, a defined signaling pathway is still unclear. LÄS MER
23. Structure, function and metabolic stability of antisense RNAs
Sammanfattning : Antisense RNAs usually are small, highly structured, unstable RNAs that control a varietyof different biological processes. They exert their effect by binding to complementarytarget RNAs and thereby inhibit their functions. LÄS MER
24. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies
Sammanfattning : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively. 25. Genomic Imprinting in Development and Evolution
Sammanfattning : Genetic information is encoded by the linear sequence of the DNA double helix, while epigenetic information is overlayed as the packaging of DNA and associated proteins into the chromatin structure. Variations in chromatin structure play a vital role in establishing and maintaining patterns of gene expression during differentiation and development of higher eukaryotes, and disruption of this epigenetic gene regulation can lead to cancer.
