  1. 21. Structure and function of hepatic cytochromes P450 : implications for drug development

    Författare :Mats Hidestrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Prediction of human drug metabolism in vivo by use of in vitro systems is of immense importance in drug development since it allows avoidance of drugs coming out on the market that are subjected to interindividual variability in metabolism or causes drug-drug interactions, both of which in turn can lead to adverse drug reactions and result in non-optimal treatment. In the present investigations the importance of P450 haplotype on substrate specificity was studied as well as a comparison of different in vitro systems for optimal prediction of in vivo drug metabolism. 2. 22. Targets and strategies for drug development against human African sleeping sickness

    Författare :Farahnaz Ranjbarian; Anders Hofer; Staffan G. Svärd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; T. brucei thymidine kinase; T. brucei methylthioadenosine phosphorylase; FANA-A purine nucleoside analogues; essential oils;

    Sammanfattning : Trypanosoma brucei is a causative agent of African sleeping sickness. It is an extracellular parasite which circulates in the blood, lymph and eventually invades the central nervous system. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Structural and Biochemical Characterizations of Three Potential Drug Targets from Pathogens

    Författare :Lu Lu; Sherry L Mowbray; Alwyn Jones; Christian Cambillau; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative pathogen of tuberculosis, currently infects one-third of the world’s population, resulting in two million deaths annually. This clearly shows that tuberculosis is one of the most serious diseases of our times. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Studies of drug disposition in hemodialysis patients : impact of genetics, inflammation and vitamin D

    Författare :Hadi Molanaei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients are at a high risk for drug adverse effects due to accumulation of drugs, which normally are excreted via the kidneys. It is believed that drugs that are metabolized by the liver are safe to prescribe in normal doses to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. LÄS MER
