Despite decades of research, the frequency of PTB has not decreased and the basic mechanisms initiating the onset of labour are still poorly understood. Animal and human studies have shown that fetal hypoxemia during labour can alter the shape of the fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) waveform, notable elevation of the T-wave and depression of the ST segment. The skeletal and dental traits have been examined in relation to health patterns and material culture in order to gain better knowledge of life ways of hunter-gatherers on Gotland with special focus on Pitted Ware culture sites and the Ajvide site in particular.
