26. Novel Immunotherapies and Immunoregulation in a Chronic Inflammatory Disease of the Central Nervous System
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of central nervous system (CNS) which is thought to arise from a breakdown of immunological tolerance in CD4 cells. The aim of this thesis is to improve our understanding of regulation mechanisms of T cell-dependent chronic inflammation in the CNS and explore ways to overcome the onset and progression of the disease, which can be an important step forward in the treatment of MS. 27. Expression of sulfatide in rodent CNS - not only restricted to myelin
Sammanfattning : Sulfatide is an acidic glycosphingolipid and a component of myelin in the nervous system proposed to be involved in maintenance of the myelin structure and thereby its function. Sulfatide is also a commonly used marker for detection of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells in cultures as well as in tissues. LÄS MER
28. Inheritance of autoimmune neuroinflammation
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neuro-inflammatory disease with anticipated complex etiology. Susceptibility to MS is conferred by numerous genes, with very low odds ratios that explain minute fractions of disease. This indicates that unknown factors are responsible for the remaining genetic contribution, termed the missing heritability. LÄS MER
29. Genetic dissection of experimental autoimmune neuroinflammatory diseases in rats
Sammanfattning : Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) causing neurological deficits. The disease has a complex etiology comprising multiple unidentified susceptibility genes and environmental influences. LÄS MER
30. Neurogenesis, neural stem cells and nitric oxide in neuroinflammation
Sammanfattning : We investigated whether nitric oxide (NO) is produced in MS patients, determining the concentrations of its oxidation products (NOx) in CSF. The total levels of NOx in CSF were significantly increased in all MS groups as compared to healthy controls and tension headache patients. LÄS MER
