21. Regulation of neurotrophins and their receptors : molecular aspects and functional implications
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to study the regulation of neurotrophins and their receptors in a functional aspect. The studies included analysis of neuronal and glial neurotrophin gene expression, that was investigated by using molecular biological techniques. LÄS MER
22. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase, new roles for an old enzyme
Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) has a wide tissue distribution with the highest expression found in white adipose tissue (WAT). HSL also has a unique ability to hydrolyze a large panel of substrates including acylglycerols, cholesteryl esters and retinyl esters. HSL is potentially a new drug target for the treatment of obesity and type II diabetes. LÄS MER
23. Gas Sensing Based on Ellipsometric Readout : Methodology and Development
Sammanfattning : The concept of an ellipsometric sensor array system - "an optical nose" - is presented. The system is used to monitor and discriminate gases. The optical readout is based on polarizer-compensator-sample-analyzer (PCSA) off-null ellipsometry. LÄS MER
24. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase - New roles in adipose tissue biology
Sammanfattning : Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health, and increased knowledge about the enzymes controlling lipid metabolism is of great importance in order to combat this disease. Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is a key enzyme in the mobilization of fatty acids from acylglycerols in adipocytes, but also plays important roles in other cell types. LÄS MER
25. Mechanisms regulating metabolic and mitogenic events in skeletal muscle : implications for insulin resistance and exercise
Sammanfattning : Reduced glucose transport in skeletal muscle is a hallmark feature of Type II diabetes. Numerous mechanisms acutely or chronically regulate skeletal muscle glucose transport. The role of GLUT4, mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor [gamma] (PPAR[gamma]) were examined in skeletal muscle. LÄS MER
