31. Aspects of T cell development contributing to autoimmunity
Sammanfattning : Autoimmunity, such as type 1 diabetes (T1D), arises as a result of tolerance breakdown against host tissues, i.e. the β-cells. Central tolerance is established during thymic T cell development and defects in key events during this process could contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. LÄS MER
32. Microdialysis as a Tool in Studies of L-Dopa and Metabolites in Malignant Melanoma and Parkinson’s Disease
Sammanfattning : A model with human melanoma xenografts transplanted to athymic mice has been adopted for in vivo studies of 5-S-cysteinyldopa (an intermediate pigment metabolite), glutathione, and cysteine. L-Dopa is an intermediate metabolite in pigment formation and is also important in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, and therefore 1 have also studied the pharmacokinetics of this compound. 33. PREDICTIVE AND PROGNOSTIC MARKERS IN SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA OF THE HEAD AND NECK
Sammanfattning : Survival of patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell cancer(HNSCC)is poor, with an overall survival < 50%, despite diagnostic and therapeutic advances. The identification of prognostic and predictive markers could help optimizing treatment. LÄS MER
34. Radioimmunoimaging and Radioimmunotherapy of Prostate Cancer Preclinical evaluation of kallikrein related peptidase 2 targeting
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is one of the major causes of cancer related deaths in men in Europe and the United States. In this doctoral thesis, radioimmunoimaging and -therapy of prostate cancer was investigated pre-clinically by targeting the human kallikrein-related peptidase 2 (hK2) with radiolabelled monoclonal antibodies. 35. The significance of placental and placental-like alkaline phosphatases in tumor biology and their potential use in clinical practice
Sammanfattning : Placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) is a membrane bound enzyme normally synthesized by the syncytiotrophoblasts in the human placenta. Recent studies have indicated that trace amounts of placental-like alkaline phosphatases also are present in several normal organs like testes and endocervix. LÄS MER
