6. Neurogenesis and transplantation in stroke-damaged brain
Sammanfattning : Stroke in young adult rodents triggers neurogenesis in the damaged striatum and intact hippocampus. as stroke happens frequently in aged individuals it is of great importance to know whether aging affects brain recovery mechanisms. LÄS MER
7. Neural Progenitor Cells in malignancy and injury of the brain. A Trojan Horse fro gliomas?
Sammanfattning : Gliomas are neoplasms arising in the central nervous system (CNS), and constitute the most common primary brain tumor. They are classified depending on the grade and morphology, from grade I, pilocytic astrocytoma, to grade IV, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Glioblastomas constitute a great challenge in treatment due to their disseminating nature. LÄS MER
8. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 9. Stem Cell Plasticity Controlling Neuronal Differentiation Prior to Cell Transplantation
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease and affects 2% of the population over 65 years of age. The disease is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons. Over time, symptoms increase and, in particular, lead to a dramatic slowness of movements. LÄS MER
10. Immunological and Inflammtory Responses against Intrastriatal Neural Grafts in the Rat
Sammanfattning : Intracerebral neural transplantation offers a new strategy to combat Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases. However, a host immune response against a histoincompatible neural graft in the brain may jeopardize transplant survival. LÄS MER
