  1. 6. Channel-Aware Multilevel Coded Modulation for Coherent Fiber-Optic Communications

    Författare :Lotfollah Beygi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; channel model; multidimensional set partitioning; low-complexity de- tector; coded modulation; signal statistics.; nonlinear phase noise; Fiber-optic communications;

    Sammanfattning : The past decades have shown an ever-increasing demand for high-rate Internet services, motivating a great effort to increase the spectral efficiency of optical networks. In general, fiber-optic links are non-Gaussian, and in contrast to additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels, there is no standard framework for quantifying fundamental limits or designing capacity-approaching coding schemes for such channels. 2. 7. When Employees Leap to Self-Employment

    Författare :Frederik Witte; Företagsekonomiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; self-employment entry; occupational choice; idea creation; occupation; laboratory experiment; panel data; survival analysis; data mining; model; entrepreneurship;

    Sammanfattning : The dissertation studies the determinants of self-employment entry through an economics of entrepreneurship lens, and examines two sources of data: 7 years of employer--employee matched panel data and a laboratory experiment. The results suggest that employees are more likely to take the leap to self-employment when they have their own business idea, and are employed in occupations with high wage variance. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Managing the Transformation Towards Advanced Service Provision : A Multilevel Framework of Servitization

    Författare :Sambit Lenka; Daniel Kindström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Servitization; Advanced Services; Multilevel; Transformation; Ambivalence; Microfoundations; Capabilities; Entreprenörskap och innovation; Entrepreneurship and Innovation;

    Sammanfattning : Product-oriented firms are increasingly moving towards providing services to customers in a bid to differentiate their offerings, increase customer loyalty, and achieve higher, more stable revenue streams. This trend of servitization is becoming ubiquitous in manufacturing firms. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Statistical modeling in international large-scale assessments

    Författare :Inga Laukaityte; Marie Wiberg; Kenny Bränberg; Ewa Rolfsman; Bernard Veldkamp; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multilevel model; plausible values; sampling weights; missing information; multiple imputation; non-monotone missing pattern; TIMSS; PISA; Statistics; statistik; pedagogik; Education;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the area of research based on large-scale educational assessments, focusing on the application of multilevel models. The role of sampling weights, plausible values (response variable imputed multiple times) and imputation methods are demonstrated by simulations and applications to TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) data. 5. 10. Understanding therapeutic traditions in a multilevel framework - new methodological approaches

    Författare :Henrik Ohlsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adherence to guidelines; practice variation; Multilevel models; variance components; determinants of prescription;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The observation of differences in the way apparently similar patients are treated from one health care setting to another, i.e., practice variation, have been recognized in numerous studies. The variations across the health care settings have been shown to exist for different outcomes. LÄS MER
