  1. 26. The Role of Matrix Metalloproteinases in Leukocyte Transmigration in Murine Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Smriti Agrawal; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; mouse; Multiple Sclerosis; Blood-brain barrier; MMP; Dystroglycan; EAE; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : Murine experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is a commonly used model in the investigation of the human disease multiple sclerosis (MS), a debilitating inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). MS and EAE involve multiple steps, primarily, auto-antigenic leukocyte (mainly T-cells and macrophages) crossing the blood-brain barrier and later their invasion into the CNS where they degrade myelin basic protein, eventually resulting in axonal degradation and CNS inflammation. 2. 27. Brain Regeneration - in vitro and in vivo studies of exercise-related effects on brain plasticity

    Författare :Cecilia Bull; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :brain; neural progenitor cells; stem cells; hippocampus; corpus collosum; rat; mouse; regeneration; neurogenesis; oligodendrogenesis; irradiation; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : Neural stem and progenitor cells in the germinal regions of the adult brain, such as the hippocampus, are of great interest, because they provide the possibility for enhanced brain plasticity or can contribute to endogenous cell replacement after injury or disease. Voluntary exercise was recently shown to robustly induce cellular and structural plasticity, thereby contributing to overall brain health. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Models for the Transfer of Drugs from the Nasal Cavity to the Central Nervous System

    Författare :Björn Jansson; Erik Björk; Sveinbjörn Gizurarson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biopharmacy; Administration; intranasal; Nasal mucosa; Central nervous system; Olfactory bulb; Rat; Mouse; Swine; Cattle; Diffusion chambers; culture; In vitro; Biological models; Biological transport; Dextrans; Dopamine; Gels; Polysaccharides; Autoradiography; Fluorescence microscopy; Biofarmaci; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci;

    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier restricts the access of many compounds, including therapeutic agents, to the brain. Several human studies indicate that nasal administration of hydrophilic compounds, such as peptides, can bypass the blood-brain barrier. The aims of this thesis were to develop and refine models for this direct nose-to-brain transfer. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Regulation of Apoptosis in Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells: Involvement of Different Signaling Pathways

    Författare :Maria Kraft; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokines; apoptosis; cell cycle; c-Kit; Flt3; Flt3-ITD; Akt; Bcl-2; FoxO3; mouse; hematopoiesis; progenitor;

    Sammanfattning : Proliferation, differentiation, and survival of hematopoietic stem cells and multipotent progenitor cells are regulated by cytokines and cell-cell interactions. Kit ligand (KL) and Flt3 ligand (FL) have pleiotropic effects, promotes survival, but are nonredundant. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The Role of the SHB Adapter Protein in Cell Differentiation and Development

    Författare :Vitezslav Kriz; Michael Welsh; Urban Lendahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; SHB; transgene; ES cells; cavitation; knockout; mouse; vasculogenesis; hematopoiesis; endoderm; mesoderm; malformation; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present study was conducted in order to assess a role of the SH2 domain-containing adapter protein SHB in development and cell differentiation.Embryonic stem (ES) cells overexpressing SHB and SHB with an inactive SH2 domain (R522K-SHB) were obtained. LÄS MER
