  1. 1. Olfactory Transfer of Analgesic Drugs After Nasal Administration

    Författare :Ulrika Espefält Westin; Erik Björk; Eva Brittebo; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Paolo Colombo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmaceutics; Nasal administration; Olfactory transfer; Olfactory pathways; Central nervous system; Blood-brain barrier; Nasal respiratory mucosa; Olfactory mucosa; Olfactory bulb; Horizontal Ussing chamber; Morphine; Dihydroergotamine; Rat; Mouse; Swine; Autoradiography; Viability; Powder formulations; Galenisk farmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Nasal administration of analgesics for achieving rapid pain relief is currently a topic of great interest. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) restricts access to the central nervous system (CNS) for several central-acting drugs, such as morphine and dihydroergotamine, which results in a substantial effect delay. 2. 2. Topical formulations, design and drug delivery : "A dive into water"

    Författare :Abdullah Ali; Marie Lodén; Anan Yagmur; Anders Hall; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; water; topical formulations; Pickering emulsion; skin cream; drug delivery; tactile friction; sensory panel; nasal; buccal; mucosa; skin; triglycerides; ethanol; drug transport; cosmetic appeal;

    Sammanfattning : Water is a vital component regulating the properties of topical formulations and their interaction with biological barriers, such as skin and mucosa. Changing the watercontent within the frame of the pharmaceutical triangle will have a huge impact on which type of formulation, such as a cream, ointment, gel, or lotion, is formed, as well as the physical properties of the formulation. 3. 3. Nasal Drug Delivery : In Vitro Studies on Factors Influencing Permeability and Implications on Absorption

    Författare :Cecilia Wadell; Frans Merkus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : Nasal delivery is a feasible alternative to oral or parenteral administration for some drugs because of the high permeability of the nasal epithelium, rapid drug absorption across this membrane and avoidance of hepatic first-pass metabolism. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate factors influencing the permeability of the nasal mucosa to various compounds and to evaluate implications for drug absorption via the nasal route. 4. 4. Tissue-Selective Activation and Toxicity of Substituted Dichlorobenzenes : Studies on the Mechanism of Cell Death in the Olfactory Mucosa

    Författare :Anna Franzén; Eva Brittebo; Ingvar Brandt; Olavi Pelkonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; tissue-selective toxicity; bioactivation; olfactory mucosa; substituted dichlorobenzenes; Bowman s glands; sustentacular cells; ER stress; Grp78; caspase-12; caspase-3; CYP2A5; protein adduction; nasal toxicity; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The nasal passages are constantly exposed to both air- and bloodborne foreign compounds. In particular, the olfactory mucosa is demonstrated to be susceptible to a variety of drugs and chemicals. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Silicone obturators and the bacterial flora in symptomatic nasal septal perforations

    Författare :Anna Karin Hulterström; Anders Berglund; Diana Berggren; Åke Davidsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nasal mucosa; perforation; symptomatic; inflammation; Staphylococcus aureus; obturator treatment; medical silicone; wettability;

    Sammanfattning : Background A perforation in the nasal septum can cause symptoms such as bleeding, obstruction, crusts and pain, and can be a challenge to treat. Surgery is the treatment of choice, but disease, size of the perforation, or the patient’s wish may contradict surgery. LÄS MER
