    Sammanfattning : Hydrogen technologies are rapidly receiving increased attention as it offers a renewable energy alternative to the current petroleum-based fuel infrastructure, considering that continued large-scale use of such fossil fuels will lead to disastrous impacts on our environment. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell should play a significant role in a hydrogen economy since it enables convenient and direct conversion of hydrogen into electricity, thus allowing the use of hydrogen in applications particularly suited for the transportation industry. 2. 12. Engineering alternative scaffold proteins for conditional targeting

    Författare :Malin Jönsson; Sophia Hober; Mark Howarth; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein Engineering; Conditional targeting; Calcium; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering naturally occurring proteins enables us to customize affinity domains according to our specific needs, tailoring them to become an important tool in a wide array of applications limited merely by our creativity. One of nature’s ways to regulate protein activity is by creating a functional change through alteration of a protein’s tertiary structure upon interaction with metal ions. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Dual targeting of proteins to mitochondria and chloroplasts : Characterization of dual targeting peptides and their interaction with organellar receptors

    Författare :Erika Spånning; Elzbieta Glaser; Anthony Moore; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most mitochondrial and chloroplastic proteins are synthesized in the cytosol as precursor proteins with an N-terminal targeting peptide (TP), which directs them to the correct organelle. There is also a group of proteins that are dual targeted to mitochondria and chloroplasts using an ambiguous N-terminal dual targeting peptide (dTP). LÄS MER

  4. 14. Ribosome Associated Factors Recruited for Protein Export and Folding

    Författare :Amanda Raine; Jarl Wikberg; Harris Bernstein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; Signal recognition particle; trigger factor; ribosomes; protein folding; membrane targeting; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Protein folding and export to the membrane are crucial events in the cell. Both processes may be initiated already at the ribosome, assisted by factors that bind to the polypeptide as it emerges from the ribosome. LÄS MER
