  1. 16. Optical Methods for Tympanic Membrane Characterisation : Towards Objective Otoscopy in Otitis Media

    Författare :Mikael Sundberg; Tomas Strömberg; Ton van Leeuwen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optical Methods; Spectroscopy; Surface Curvature; Monte Carlo; Tympanic Membrane; Otitis Media; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Otitis media, which is an upper respiratory tract infection that affect the middle ear, is the second most common disease in childhood, outnumbered in prevalence only by the common cold. Diagnosis of middle ear inflammation is often performed in the primary healthcare where the normal procedure involves anamnesis and physical examination of the tympanic membranes (TM) of the patient, usually be means of otoscopy. 2. 17. Software Solutions for Nuclear Imaging Systems in Cardiology, Small Animal Research and Education

    Författare :Iván Valastyán; Andras Kerek; Michael Ljungberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : The sensitivity for observing physiological processes makes nuclear imaging an important tool in medical diagnostics. Different types of nuclear imaging modalities, with emphasis on the software components and image reconstructions, are presented in this thesis:  the Cardiotom for myocardial heart studies at the Karolinska University Hospital, the small animal Positron Emission Tomograph (PET) scanners for research and the SPECT, PET, spiral CT and Cardiotom demonstrators for the Royal Institute of Technology medical imaging laboratory. 3. 18. Diagnostic and Prognostic Value of Exercise Electrocardiographic Test Variables in Coronary Artery Disease

    Författare :Håkan Kronander; Lars-Åke Brodin; Erling Löfsjögård-Nilsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; exercise ECG test; coronary artery disease; acute myocardial infarction; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : The diagnostic performance of conventional analysis of the exercise electrocardiographic (ECG) test for the detection of coronary artery disease (CAD) is limited to 70-75%. The exercise ECG test is the most widely used non-invasive method for assessing CAD and even a small improvement in the diagnostic performance is important. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Myocardial Effects of Type 2 Diabetes, Co-morbidities, and Changing Loading Conditions : a Clinical Study by Tissue Velocity Echocardiography

    Författare :Satish C. Govind; Lars-Åke Brodin; Mohbubul Alam; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Ever since the validation of the tissue velocity echocardiography (TVE) technique more than a decade ago the modality has been used rather successfully in various clinical situations, at rest as well as during stress echocardiography. Hitherto, dobutamine stress echocardiography has been the hallmark of all forms of stress procedures, now with TVE, quantification of the longitudinal motions of the left ventricle shows far superiority, with improved sensitivity and specificity in the functional diagnosis of coronary artery disease. 5. 20. New ultrasonographic approaches to monitoring cardiac and vascular function

    Författare :Anna Bjällmark; Lars-Åke Brodin; Kjell Karp; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. To decrease mortality and morbidity in cardiovascular disease, the development of accurate, non-invasive methods for early diagnosis of atherosclerotic cardiac and vascular engagement is of considerable clinical interest.
