11. Detection and Sequencing of Amplified Single Molecules
Sammanfattning : Improved analytical methods provide new opportunities for both biological research and medical applications. This thesis describes several novel molecular techniques for nucleic acid and protein analysis based on detection or sequencing of amplified single molecules (ASMs). LÄS MER
12. Identification and evaluation of growth hormone antagonists
Sammanfattning : States in which Growth hormone (GH) levels are elevated have been implicated in several physiological disorders such as acromegaly, diabetic complications and progression of malignancies. Classical treatments for acromegaly are surgery and radiotherapy but also pharmacological therapies exist. LÄS MER
13. Cancer proteogenomics : connecting genotype to molecular phenotype
Sammanfattning : The central dogma of molecular biology describes the one-way road from DNA to RNA and finally to protein. Yet, how this flow of information encoded in DNA as genes (genotype) is regulated in order to produce the observable traits of an individual (phenotype) remains unanswered. Recent advances in high-throughput data, i.e. LÄS MER
14. Evaluation, synthesis and imaging of therapeutic oligonucleotides
Sammanfattning : A new method for the ³⁴S isotope labelling of phosphorothioate oligonucleotides is reported which allows a practical synthesis of site specifically labeled oligonucleotides. Several applications of this method are reported. LÄS MER
15. Standardization and application of quantitative PCR methods in patients with hematological malignancies
Sammanfattning : Using modem combination chemotherapy regimens, it has been possible to increase the rate of complete remission (CR) in acute lymphoblastic (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The major reason for treatment failure in acute leukemia (AL) is the resistance of leukemic blasts to chemotherapeutic agents, which is accompanied by an inability of the immune system to eradicate residual leukemic cells surviving initial treatment.
