31. Conjugated linoleic acid and the metabolic syndrome : Clinical and metabolic studies with special reference to insulin resistance, oxidative stress and inflammation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the metabolic effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in middle-aged men with the metabolic syndrome, a high-risk group for type 2 diabetes. CLA is a group of fatty acid isomers with antiobesity and antidiabetogenic effects in animals, and CLA is therefore used as a supplement in humans. LÄS MER
32. Microsomal glutathione transferase 1 in anti-cancer drug resistance and protection against oxidative stress
Sammanfattning : Cancer is the second leading cause of death in privileged countries. Tremendous efforts have been done to improve the efficiency of cancer treatment. Anti-cancer drug resistance is still a major problem in failure of cancer therapy. LÄS MER
33. Interactive mechanism between beta-amyloid process, alfa7 nicotinic receptor, glial cell activation and oxidative stress in Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia with pathological features including the accumulation of neuritic plaques (NPs) and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). These degenerative processes are also accompanied by impaired cholinergic transmission, oxidative stress, activated glia and inflammation reaction. LÄS MER
34. Studies on effects of antioxidants on arterial thrombosis and endothelial cell injury : With special reference to Tocopherols and ApoA1 Milano
Sammanfattning : Coronary arterial endothelial injury and thrombosis are believed to be critical factors in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Experimental studies have provided evidence for au inverse relation between acute coronary events and antioxidant intake. LÄS MER
35. Synthesis, properties and applications of chalcogen-containing antioxidants
Sammanfattning : In the first part, the preparation and properties of chalcogen-containing vitamin E analogues are described. The sulfur compound 3,3,4,6,7-pentamethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]thiophene-5-ol was prepared by two different routes using ionic and radical chemistry. Interesting rearrangements were observed in the two synthetic pathways. LÄS MER
