  1. 1. Lipid peroxidation in vivo : Evaluation and application of methods for measurement

    Författare :Eva Södergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; lipid peroxidation; hydroperoxides; F2-isoprostanes; MDA; prostaglandins; measurement; carbon tetrachloride; vitamin E; dietary fat quality; rapeseed oil; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Lipid peroxidation is thought to be an important factor in the pathophysiology of a number of diseases and in the process of ageing, but its measurement in vivo has been difficult. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods for measurement of lipid peroxidation in vivo that are suitable for clinical investigations, and to apply these methods in animal and human studies investigating basal conditions and situations associated with increased lipid peroxidation. 2. 2. Determination of biomarkers for lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress : Development of analytical techniques and methods

    Författare :Kristina Claeson Bohnstedt; Bo Karlberg; Niels Heegaard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; capillary electrophoresis; mass spectrometry; electrospray; porous graphitic carbon; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; biomarker; malondialdehyde; hydroxynonenal; isoprostane; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress can be defined as a state of disturbance in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance in favour of the former, leading to potential damage. Processes associated with oxidative stress involve reactive oxygen species and radicals and can result in elevated levels of oxidatively modified or toxic molecules that can cause cellular malfunction, and even cell death. 3. 3. Measurement and Evaluation of Antioxidant Status and Relation to Oxidative Stress in Humans

    Författare :Cecilia Nälsén; Bengt Vessby; Margareta Öhrvall; Lars Ove Dragsted; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nutrition; antioxidant; antioxidant status; antioxidant capacity; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; F2-isoprostanes; dietary factors; vitamin E; n-3 fatty acids; human; Näringslära;

    Sammanfattning : Numerous diseases are associated with reduced antioxidant defence and oxidative stress. The antioxidant defence includes dietary and endogenous antioxidants and involves complex interactions between them. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Milk Fat Intake and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Supplementation : Dietary Markers and Associations to Clinical and Biochemical Characteristics

    Författare :Annika Smedman; Samar Basu; Bengt Vessby; Jan I Pedersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nutrition; Pentadecanoic acid 15:0 ; milk products; milk fat; dietary marker; coronary heart disease; anthropometric variables; conjugated linoleic acid CLA ; lipid peroxidation; inflammation; F2 isoprostane; prostaglandin F2; human; Näringslära; Nutrition; Näringslära;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis dietary markers for intake of milk fat, associations between intake of milk fat and risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD), and the effects of supplementation with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) to healthy humans are investigated.The dietary fat quality is one of the main lifestyle factors affecting risk for CHD. 5. 5. Homocysteine and Coronary Artery Disease With special Reference to Biochemical Effects Of Vitamin Therapy

    Författare :Torfi Jonasson; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; pyridoxine.; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; inflammation; homocysteine; endothelial function; folate; F2-isoprostanes; cystatine C; Acut coronary syndrome; cardiovascular disease; asymmetric dimethylarginine; cobalamine;

    Sammanfattning : An elevated plasma level of homocysteine has been suggested as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The objectives of this thesis were to study the influence of renal function on homocysteine levels in patients with coronary artery disease and to explore the association of elevated plasma levels of homocysteine to oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction.
