6. Regulation of survival and proliferation of human intestinal epithelial cells by leukotriene D4
Sammanfattning : The pro-inflammatory mediator, Leukotriene D4 (LTD4) is a product of arachidonic acid cascade and has been implicated in asthma and inflammatory bowel diseases. Prolonged inflammatory conditions like ulcerative colitis increases the risk for the development of cancer and the factors that induce the chronic immune response remain uncertain. LÄS MER
7. Studies on 15-lipoxygenase in dendritic cells and leukotriene receptors in Hodgkin lymphoma
Sammanfattning : Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is histologically characterized by a minority of malignant cells, the so-called Hodgkin-Reed Sternberg (H-RS) cells, surrounded by inflammatory cells such as T lymphocytes, eosinophils, macrophages and mast cells. It is generally believed that various molecules released by the H-RS cells are of major importance in the pathophysiology of cHL. LÄS MER
8. Studies of leukotriene C4 synthase isoenzymes and the cysteinyl leukotrine receptors in human endothelial- and mast cells
Sammanfattning : Leukotriene (LT) C4, the parent compound of LTD4 and LTE4, is generated when LTA4 is conjugated with GSH by either leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) or microsomal GSH S-transferase (MGST) type 2 or 3. Together these lipid mediators cause contractions particularly in airway smooth muscle and the microcirculation, leading to bronchconstriction, plasma extravasation and edema formation as well as increased mucus secretion from epithelial cells and recruitment of inflammatory cells. 9. Functional characterisation of receptors for cysteinyl leukotrienes in smooth muscle
Sammanfattning : The cysteinyl leukotrienes (leukotriene C4, D4 and E4) have potent biological actions which significantly contribute to the airway obstruction in asthma. Several of these effects are blocked by drugs known as CysLT1-receptor antagonists, which have been introduced as new treatment for asthma. LÄS MER
10. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER
