  1. 1. Asthma, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and body weight in children

    Författare :Xiaomei Mai; Urich Wahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In the past few years, the relationship between overweight and asthma has been shown in countries with a Western life-style, but the mechanisms of this relation are only partially understood. Also, very low birth weight (VLBW) babies have immature lung and immune systems, which can conceivably affect the development of asthma and allergy later in life. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The relationship between inflammation and structural changes in the airways of the lower and upper respiratory tract : Studies in patients with asthma, Sjögren's syndrome, rhinitis and children with otitis media with effusion

    Författare :Kawa Amin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; bronchial hyperresponsiveness; inflammatory cells; asthma; rhinitis; Sjögren s syndrome; children with otitis media with effusion; immunohistochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The pathophysiology of asthma, Sjögrens syndrome (SS), rhinitis, and otitis media with effusion (OME) in children has been extensively investigated in upper and lower respiratory tract, respectively, and shown to comprise structural changes in the airways and involvement of inflammatory cells. By comparing diseases that have bronchial hyperresponsivenses or mucosal inflammation as a common denominator, it may be possible to learn more about the mechanisms underlying inflammation in the upper and lower respiratory tract. 3. 3. Bronchial hyperresponsiveness of ß-adrenoceptor agonists and antagonists in guinea pig airways

    Författare :Fredrik Johansson; Sven-Erik Dahlén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma is one of the most common diseases in the industrialised countries. The underlying mechanisms are complex and still not fully understood although inflammation of the airways plays an important role. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Morbidity of asthma has increased over the world. The reasons for this increase have remained unclear. Studies in children have reported considerable East-West difference in the prevalence of atopy and respiratory allergies. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; airway inflammation; united airways; airway hyperresponsiveness; asthma; allergíc rhinitis;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma and allergic rhinitis are diseases that cause major disability and illness in all ethnic groups and ages. It is well established that allergic rhinitis and asthma are closely linked entities and more than 75 % of the patients with asthma reports concomitant rhinitis. LÄS MER
