  1. 1. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation

    Författare :Annika Roquet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :allergic inflammation; eosinophils; bronchial hyperresponsiveness; histamine; leukotrienes; antihistamine; leukotriene-antagonist; low-dose challenge;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of the Blood-Brain Barrier in Stereoselective Distribution and Delay in H1 Receptor Occupancy of Cetirizine in the Guinea Pig Brain

    Författare :Anubha Gupta; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Niclas E. Jonsson; Joseph W. Polli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Cetirizine enantiomers; Brain distribution; Microdialysis; H1 receptor occupancy; Stereoselective-pharmacokinetics; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Sammanfattning : Cetirizine, an H1-antihistamine, is prescribed for allergic disorders. It exists as a racemic mixture, with levocetirizine being the active enantiomer. The central nervous system side-effects of H1-antihistamines are caused by their penetration into the brain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessment of microvascular function by use of transdermal iontophoresis : methodological aspects

    Författare :Erik Droog Tesselaar; Folke Sjöberg; Angela Shore; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Iontophoresis; Microcirculation; Laser-Doppler; Acetylcholine; Sodium nitroprusside; Pharmacodynamics; Pharmacokinetics skin; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Assessment of the microcirculation is of major importance in understanding the physiology of the vasculature and in assessing te vascular effects of pathological conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. Transdermal iontophoresis can be used to non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs into the skin. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sub-lethal Effects of Anthropogenic Contaminants on Aquatic Invertebrates

    Författare :Warren Kunce; Frank Johansson; Jan Örberg; Sarah Josefsson; Jes Rasmussen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ecotoxicology; sub-lethal; behavior; biomarkers; thermal tolerance; pesticides; pyrethroids; neonicotinoids; pharmaceuticals; antihistamines; microplastics; mixtures; freshwater; invertebrates; chironomids; damselflies; snails; Biology with specialization in Animal Conservation; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk bevarandebiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic contaminants are considered to play a substantial role in the decline of freshwater invertebrate diversity. Sub-lethal effects of many of these contaminants on behaviour and life-history traits of aquatic invertebrates may contribute to their decline. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of mast cell-derived mediators for leukocyte / endothelium-interactions and microvascular mechanisms in inflammation and in anaphylaxis

    Författare :Yancai Guo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Anaphylaxis; histamine; intravital microscopy; leukocyte; mast cell-deficient rat Ws Ws ; microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the roles of mast cell-derived mediators for leukocyte/endothelium interactions and microvascular mechanisms in inflammation and in anaphylaxis, using mast cell-deficient Ws/Ws rats and their wild-type +/+ littermates. The efflux of endogenous histamine and edema formation evoked by subplantar injection of compound 48/80 in rat hind-paws was dose-dependent in +/+ rats, and was essentially lacking in Ws/Ws rats.
